Thread: hidden fuel pump cut off switch

Which head unit is this?! I have two Eclipse HU's, and didn't read anything about this. I read that you could have a CD Key that wouldn't allow you to utilize the stereo, but not a CD that wouldn't allow you to start the car...

A car thief will jump in and think the batery is dead or something...

Then you have to set all your radio stations again

Problem in south Fl, is these guys don't jump in and drive the car away...they tow them away.

This is the truth. If your car is worth it. I will be gone from your driveway while youre home on your lunch break and the car will be stripped and parted 4-5 hours later. Theives tend to do a lot of planning these days. Its a shame.

YeaI heard a guy who had the starter wired to the ash try . The switch was behind it so when it was closed, it would start, but if it was opened, it wouldn't start. Something SO trivial wouldn't catch the attention of anyone tryna steal a car.

I've also heard of using the seatbelt sensor. The thief must buckle up to steal the car. I think the best approach is a 2 layer combination. Say a thief needed to find a hidden switch and fasten the seat belt. Of course as mentioned before, if someone wants it bad enough... there is little to stop a thief with a tow truck.

my civic had a ton of small things to make it start. I had a plain view toggle switch.. It relied on having the seat all the way back in the position i left it to make contact. I loved it, when someone else got in my car they adjusted the seat and could never get it started. All i did was use a couple old flat honda ECU pins that made contact when the seat was pushed back. I've also helped a friend wire up his ignition kill to his power mirror switch. You had to turn it to adjust the drivers side mirror to make contact.

Using stock parts for kill switches is much smarter, as people are less prone to finding them.

To supply power to multiple devices, you simply wire up the spst relay coil with a 12v fused line & ground. Then add the trigger wire from the reed switch and use the relay output wire to supply the devices with power from the relay. You can provide power to multiple devices from a single relay by isolating each device using a 3amp diode to avoid power bleeding across devices. Depending on the device i would not use a diode, some might be more sensitive and not like it. Have the switch trigger a relay then each device will have its own relay as well. This will be lots of relays but you know nothing will get crossed or any sort of back feeding. But i would think the switch should be able to turn on 2 relays, they do not draw that much current to close and stay closed.
I would probably do 3 things to prevent the car from starting, 1. ignition, 2. starter, 3. fuel pump. It would be nice for them not to be able to crank the car so they can not do too much damage. Also a nice alarm with a 2 way so you can get out there quick enough to prevent them from doing damage.
I installed car alarms, stereos, and all other goodies for 3 years and i have learned several tricks to prevent theft.
My favorite is mounting mini peizo sirens under the dash or seats so when the alarm goes off no one can be in the car long enough to do anything.

Problem with this is it will also disable any alarm you have on there. I'd rather have an alarm to warn me my stereo's being stolen than a full-system kill switch and no alarm...sure the kill-switch is a great deterrent for theft of the whole vehicle, but it does nothing to protect what's in there.
