Well, I bought some speakers..
now I just have to wait for them to get here.

I'll admit, I went off of price for speakers, anything has to be better than 15 year old paper cones. I went with phoenix gold 6.5" components up front, and 6.5" coax's in the back. They'll be running off of my pioneer HU which has 50x4 output, which should be about perfect for the RMS of these speakers.

I bought 'em from the bay.. so i'm still waiting for them. Hopefully I'll get around to installing them next weekend, and posting up some pics and my impression of them..

Oh, i'm still trying to find a ported box for my sub, the sealed box is too small, and won't get loud enough for me

what size is your sub? let alone, what model?

the sub is a power acoustik pw2-12m. 12" rated at 500rms 1200max.
dual 4ohm vc.

some people are hitting high 150s in dB drags with those subs, they just have to have a pretty big ported box. I was hoping to build a 2.5cu/ft box over the weekend and tune it to ~28hz, but I didn't have the time. That should have made it LOUD. right now i'm running a .8cu/ft sealed box that i had laying around from an old shallow mount pioneer. The amp is a loaner from a buddy. JL slash 1000/1.

Are you going to amp the components eventually?

Hm. Many record holders use sealed setups, but they usually have more speakers.

I would also go ported as well, as of now I have a R.F. P3 Dual 4ohm 12", and had it sealed, but switched to ported, and the difference is amazing. Love to see what I can actually muster up in db's someday..

most of the big car audio guys i know tell me to go ported if i'm wanting dB levels.. which, i am. But, I also want it to sound clean, which is where a tame box and setup comes in.

about amping the speakers, probably not. they'll run off of 50w, which is fine. the bass isn't loud enough to drown out my stockers, so it'll probably just even it out.

your HU is only 18 watts RMS per channel,, 50x4 is max,, to keep it clean you need a small amp,, on the ported box subject ,, ported is a 3db gain over a sealed and it does'nt mean you have to give up sound quality,PA is not going to give you that,, don't get me wrong it's fine for the money,,I have a pair of 10's in a slot port Qtune enclosure and I've recorded a DB level at 152.2 and clean as hell!! my subs retail 500 each though, but if you want sound Q with loudness you have to spend some bucks like Brett did,, P3 is one of the finest subs out there with the loudness and Sound Q and it can really handle 500 rms ... good luck with your system build ........

I was gonna say, "what Pioneer HU does 50 watts RMS?"

eh, it's been so long ago since i've bought it all i can remember is 50x4.

this setup is definitely just so i can have music. i've got less than 120 dollars in everything, minus the headunit, because i bought that about 5 years ago when it was the newest thing out there.

i'm wanting to get another car, and do it right. the sentra isn't really worth spending that much money on. it's just an SE, and it's been abused a little bit.

..Man, I've spent around 2K on mine, and still have a 5 year old headunit. But I love it to death.
