Thread: Best Gauges for the buck?

Well they're on their way! Overnight shipping included and I paid $150 out the door for three gauges

I've been looking at their digi guages, thinking about it.

Been using prosport for a few years now. I kept killing the oil sending unit(autometer) in the ve car. I also killed one in my turbo car. I have yet to kill a prosport sending unit. I have had no complaints so far and I have oil, boost and water gauges.

I almost bit the bullet and bought the digi gauges. I thought "Damn, digital readouts? Can't argue with a solid number, no guessing..."

Then my ricerism kicked in, and I wanted the amber lighting since it's easiest on my eyes at night. The blue kills my night vision which sucks to begin with.



Nice to hear! I know a lot of people stand behind autometer, but I'm not a faithful user. My oil pressure gauge hovers around 100psi on cold start (20 degree temps) and after driving around for a while, it steps down and just doesn't sit right with me. It states that at warm idle I'm at less than 25psi, now.

Yeah my ve motor killed two autometer sending units with in three months. I really like the electronic boost gauge its very accurate for the money.

What kind of oil are you using? That's not unheard of if you have old/crappy oil. I believe Ashton (maybe not? Can't find the thread I'm trying to refer to) said his oil pressure dropped below 20psi at warm idle with Mobile 1 - I'm changing oil brands next time because of it, mine does the same thing. Added a bit of a different brand of oil and it brought it right back up.

Oil just changed, less than 400 miles on it, Valvoline synthetic 10w30. I refuse to ever use Mobil 1 again. I'm floating around with other brands of oil now to determine how well they perform.

in the same boat cliff. I am on my thrid brand of oil(gc castrol) and I do not like the pressures I see with the car warmed up. they only seem to be low at idle but with in spec at 3000rpm.

Mine is the same. Low at idle, fine at cruise and everywhere else. I am going to be trying Rotella on my next oil change.

As for gauges, I notice a lot of you guys are using electric gauges. I've never been a big fan - feel like I can trust a mechanical gauge much more than an electric one. Seen too many bad oil pressure sending units lately.

Cruising pressures seem to be okay for me as well, around 50psi @3krpm. I just don't like the low pressure at idle and under 2500rpm.
