Thread: MP3 player as stereo?

I've heard of people making their own setup that uses their MP3 player as their headunit. Anyone here done this?

this is how i used to roll our gutted b13
u just need a amp and a rca to headphone jack cable
use the ipod or mp3 player for volume
u can hook it to your stock speakers, or do a whole system or whatever u want
i just had 2 6x9's in boxes i threw behind the seats lol

just plug the cable into the hadphone jack on the mp3 player and the rca's into the amp, turn the volume up almost all the way on the mp3 player and adjust the gain on the amp to where its as loud as u want it but not blowing speakers, then just turn it down on the mp3 player

that's what i did in my car. i ran an amp under the driver's seat and ran the ipod cable up through the center console and hid it in the little cap that pops open to reveal the two screws that hold the console in.

Just depends on how much money you want to spend. You can get a cheap one for a few bucks at Radio Shack.

One last question, since I know nothing about car audio. What kind of amp specifically do I need to look for?

Once again, just depends on how much you want to spend and how many speakers you want to power. If you want just 2 speakers get a 2 channel amp. If you want 4 speakers or 2 speakers and a sub get a 4 channel amp.

4 speakers = 4 channel amp. Got it.
