Good opinion Eggman. The 9500i really does seem worth the money on paper, and from user reviews. I've just never had personal experience with one, so I can't speak for it.

I've been relying on this site for years now... Speeding Limits - Field Testing Radar Detectors and Public Safety Products

To paraphrase the title of this thread... it's "THE" Radar Test site.

cliff notes, what's the best money can buy?

i got another ticket at 2:00 am in the middle of nowhere KS last night on my way to Tulsa..

this after my car got broken into a couple of weeks ago and the cops did nothing. i'm so sick of the tax collector with a badge who's there to "serve and protect" me.

Here in Utah, law enforcement doesn't use radar. Every city around me uses laser. Are there any good ones for that? I'd imagine I'd need some type of jammer or scrambler to give me time to slow down if lit up by one of those. They don't typically give a warning since it is a focused beam...

I'm reading that the V1 is stuck in a time warp.. not updating and even the tech manual talks about radar technologies that were abandoned years ago... i like the idea of the GPS equipped models that have great range too, the Beltronics GPS equipped model is looking good after reading several reviews..

GX 65 - Beltronics

I don't think jammers or scramblers work on light beams (laser), just on radar signals.

I've got the top of the line Escort 9500ix which covers all of the bands including laser. Here in Cali I was feeling pretty good with it for a while because I could spot Ka from quite a distance. However, on two different occasions now I've seen a cop on the side of the road, pointing a laser gun at cars near me, and my detector didn't make a sound. When they say that laser detection is only good for knowing when you've been hit, they weren't kidding. That beam is too focused for my detector to get a whiff of it before it is pointed at my car (and they have a reading). What did the cop use to gauge your speed?

i didn't ask. it may be true of all laser detectors, that the laser is to focused to read it until it's on you..

He should have written on your ticket what he used, I thought it was a law for them to put that down? And yes, I think that all laser detectors are only useful for telling you when you've already been nailed.

V1 is not in a timewarp. They believe in updating the hardware and firmware, not the shell. They stuck with what has worked for years, appearance wise.
