"THE" Radar detection thread
Decided to create this thread, to compile other links within the forum pertaining to radar detectors/jammers, and ancillery devices.

I have taken the plunge and bought another V1 radar detector, because I'm NEVER doing the speed limit. Anyone that has ridden with me knows this. Rather than cruise and getting close calls often, I decided WTH, I might as well get one again.

So, with that being said, I did some searching for all relavent threads, and they're posted below:

http://www.sr20-forum.com/offtopic/9267-best-radar-detector.html

http://www.sr20-forum.com/offtopic/6202-radar-detectors.html

My goal here is to add to this thread as other threads are created.

If you have anything in particular you want added (UNBIASED REVIEWS, PLEASE), feel free to do so. If you don't have a radar detector, no need to post. If you do have one, feel free to post the make, model, and usage as well as your personal review.

The top reviewed radar detectors to date from my compiling results:

Passport 9500i/ix
V1
Bel STi Driver
Beltronix GX65

Keep in mind that these results vary, site by site. It seems that if you were to want a nutshell result, all radar detectors listed above are almost equal. The only differences that are found are that some offer GPS while others don't, as well as some's interfaces and design being better than others.

Tekkie drives like a mad man and I grab the o **** handle when he gets on it. Good purchase sir will this be accompying us up to good ol CT. By the way im done with your SAT radio fix that asap haha. People say these don't work but I got a cheap one from ebay and that thing has saved my ass a lot. Well worth the $60 I spent for how many tickets I avoided by having a headsup to slow the hell down.

I recently went to an Autocross in Huntsville, on the way back to Chattanooga I was riding with my friend and my dad was riding with my uncle. My friend had some random Radar Detector and my Uncle had the V1.

We missed 3 cops shooting radar out of 3 in my friends car....
I have yet to experience an Escort. I highly recommend the V1, it may be old(er), but it still kicks ass!

I have an older Cobra XRS 9330 Radar Laser Detctor.. It works great but no GPS..
Its also stealthy enough to keep the cops from knowing that I have it when visiting states where detectors are illegal (Virginia, NC, etc)..

I'll probably upgrade later this year.. But, I really like my TomTom.. Two device into a single device would be nice..

In keeping with GPS, one thing to keep in mind...

Newer GPS devices can also provide you with Camera information, such as my new Garmin. You can load databases from the web into the device, and an alert is sounded when you're coming into proximity of safety cameras, as well as the usual construction areas, and traffic updates if you subscribe to that particular service.

I will be using the V1 in stealth mode, as I purchased the remote for it, as well. The remote is nice compared to previous editions (circa 1997) that had the remote as part of the cigarette lighter. They can now be located wherever you prefer.

I have an older full size conversion van. Purchased a Cobra radar detector for it 15 years ago.
That Cobra unit had 2 parts: the control box mounted in the dash, And a remote unit that I mounted in the engine bay behind the grill. The remote unit was connected with a cable. Ive owned maybe 6 or 7 radar detectors (averaged 6 speed tickets per yr in my 20's but I had 4 drivers licenses then to spread the wealth). Cheaper to buy Cobra radar detectors..

But I must now branch out and look at other manufacturers & detectors..

I have had a Escort 9500i with gps lockout.I have had it since the first week they were out.
It works great, and has saved me a CRAPLOAD of tickets.

Once you use the GPS lockout all the falses on your commute and frequently travelled roads,it gets even nicer!!!
The thing is so quiet,I wonder if it still works sometimes. If you lock out a speed sign,it will lockout for a 1/2 mile radius.I have on near me that they move around the town here and my radar keeps it locked out.
BTW when it is locked out .it still shows that ist sees it,but doesnt alarm(so you know it works)
Also ,it locks out that specific frequency at that specific GPS location. This way if a LEO was sitting by the sign,it would alarm, because his frequency would be different.
GPS also gives you heads up speed display option...which I also love.
There is a sexy girls voice that says the band it is alerting too...turned it off.It was kinda cool for like ...a week..lol

I have all 3 of my cars set up with mounts, and hardwired with remote led/mute buttons,so I can easily move it from vehicle to vehicle.
I never go anywhere without it.

I have owned V1 and it is a little more sensitive than the escort, but that means alot more falses. That makes for an annoying radar detector to me.
I drive too much to have the thing going off all the time .It served me well in the 90'sbut I wanted to spend my 400+ dollars on the newest technology.
My 9500 picks up 360 degrees...
As for the direction the radar is coming from...who cares
You cant be clocked from the side, and I have yet to get caught speeding from behind...they will just clock you from behind on a speedo.

Congrats on purchasing your old technology,lol..(not that is not good)
In my opinion, there are too many more features for the money with the escort, and a more modern looking package as well.
I personally LOVE my 9500i,and will never look back

Before evryone gets excited...
I am not saying that the V1 is not a good detector, but I prefer the escort.
