Remote Car Starter / Keyless Entry
Buy the Python 1400XP Remote Start/Keyless Entry System and other Car security & remote starts at circuitcity.com

Anyone use this particular model? I'm not thrilled with having to go outside and start my car on really cold days. I can install pretty much any alarm and or keyless entry on the car, just looking for opinions on something decent without spending alot. If you make another recommendation, make sure it has remote start and keyless entry. Alarm isn't necessary.

DEI's products are OK. The best remote start i have installed and used is the "Autostart" brand. They are made in Canada and work very well. There are models that are 2way, the remote will light up and beep after it starts so that if you can not see the car you will know it started. I also have Compustar's on both of my cars and they work great as well. Personally the Autostarts are the best if you do not need the LCD display. If you want a 2way with the LCD i would get the Compustar, but the Autostart has a more durable remote and is smaller.

The DEI units are reliable, easy to install, but they may not have the best range. Depending on where you live and what type of interference you have, radio stations and things of that nature, the viper might be a little limited. Any FM system is going to give the best range. Computsar and Autostart are FM systems and work very well in interference type of places. I have a DEI on the wifes car and it does not work half the distance that mine do near the interference spots. Out in the country you may not notice and difference either way.

Thank you for the input. Is there a particular place you recommend buying from?

I get mine from a local place. I would get them anywhere that you trust. I dont think the units are that much, pretty comparable to the DEI one you were looking at.

I just had an SRT1600 installed by Code Alarm. You can buy them around $200 online. I didn't know this until after I had it installed at the tune of a little over $450.

Range is around 1 mile, has remote start. If you have a vehicle that requires programmed keys, you'll need to get one cut and get a module that you'll keep the key installed in. Without it, you won't be able to remote start.

Has any of you done remote start on a Manual tranny?

Yes, many alarms have extra safety to do Manual trans. You need a neutral safety switch input instead of park wire input from auto and you bypass the clutch and you send a e-brake signal wire to the unit.

Since we are talking about DEI products, also try Sonic Electronix . I bought my Viper 5900 Security & remote start system for $205 and they also have a promising waranty system. As I searched their database they have good products in nice prices.
