Thread: GTiR Base Timing

Does anyone know the base timing for the GTiR motor? Also does anyone know how to set the base timing?

read a bunch of the other forum and it seems the 54C cannot go under 1k RPM with the TPS disconnected which would make it impossible for it to go into timing mode.

i'm trying to retard my timing because the car is detonating hunder high loads.

Base timing is 20 degress. That is with the gti-r ecu, injectors and maf.

Try adjusting the idle 1st. Disconnect all the harnesses to the idle control valve if you get no reaction with adjustment along with tps. Turn it all the way down rev it again and plug everything back in , unplug tps then it should reacting by that point. I can get mine to stall at anytime when adjusting my idle and no problem putting into timing mode. Just do what i said and it should work .

i adjusted the idle control screw all the way closed but it still idled high. the car is running an 02 induction manifold and when talking to JROD he said this could be the cause of it not wanting to idle lower than 1k. i did not try pulling the connector off the idle control valve though, i'll try that tomorrow.

The reason it won't go lower than 1K is because of all the split pipes, leaks and defective idle control system components..

Seriously, its a major problem on the Pulsar, most of them are the same. Unfortunately there are about 20 different reasons, see here for some of them -

If you want to set your idle at a lower rpm, you will need two people and big balls. Do the usual procedure for setting the idle with the TPS disconnected etc, put the car in first gear with your foot very heavily on the brake and ride the clutch to load the engine and drop the revs. Just make sure your buddy setting the timing is pretty quick and don't burn your clutch out

btw, the timing is 20 degrees for Japanese 100 RON fuel, you'll have to retard it a bit depending on what fuel your using. For 95 RON in the UK people use 18 degrees.

mine idles high I just adjusted the throttle stop set screw on the passenger side and now its fine

you have to keep playing with it because mine acted up for awhile theres a procedure here or on the old forum how to..... let me see if i can dig it up.
