Thread: Where does your clutch engauge?

i have been driving my car more and more and i noticed that i really am not sure where to adjust my clutch. i have a broad spectrum of adjustment as far as being able ot adjust it low and high.

but i was wondering where do you guys have your clutch engauge? right now my clutch engauges like midway from the floor, between the floor and brake.

when i got my car back from the turner the clutch was adjusted way up top, and i wasnt sure exactly why becuase the clutch can be adjust all the way to the floor, and i got used to driving the with the clutch engauging like that i donno if they adjusted it like that becuase of tuning purposes, as my clutch wasnt fully adjusted before tuning and i donno if thats how they felt comfortable driving the 6 puck like that or what, but it felt somewhat unnatural, and now that i have been expiermenting with adjusting the clutch, im not sure exactly where the ser's like to engauge or where you guys recomend haivng it engsauge?

i like mine about the same level as when my brakes engages.

It should engage up top where to tuner put it. Technically it is your choice as to where you like it but depending on how its adjusted the clutch may slip.

I use the B13 GA clutch cable on my B14 with P11 tranny. I don't need the spacer that many use. I have it adjusted to where you depress the clutch pedal less than half way to disengage the clutch. Up top is the preferred area by most, and the shop I hang out at wouldn't even drive the car off the lot until they adjusted it up.

I typically like a mid engagement point. But I have big feet, and heavy legs.

My sentra would engage about 2" from the floor, and be fully engaged in another .75" of travel, it felt great.

My golf has a self adjusting clutch cable, it is fully engaged about 1" from the top of the pedal, but it has a pedal stop, so I've only got 3" of travel...

yeah i guess i will just have to do more adjusting to get it right, with it down lower it seems like its a on off type feel, so more throttle input is needed to really makei t drivable, i will have to try it a little from up top again.

i think my cable might be stretched tho becuae its really loose with it adjusted down lower and i dont think it should be that loose....then again the stage 4'' clutch might have stretched it, to get the cable tight it has to be adjust all the way up top to get it tight

what are some sympotoms of a stretched clutch cable? i adjusted it tight and it causes the clutch to engauge too high...then where it feels jusrt right, the clutch cable is what seems overly loose?/?????? would you say clutch cable stretched?

mine is set very low right now by the previous owner. all the way to the floor engages and off it about an inch releases.

its cool but i'm only 5'4" so i have to sit with the seat slid all the way forward to engage, lol.

how do you adjust the pedal? i didn't even know you could. time to search. wooot!!!!

by the clutch levar, there is a wheel, that if you turn it away ffrom the firewall, it loosens the cluch cable, and if you turn it towards the firewall it tightens the clutch cable, which in return makes the clutch engauge low or high, dependding on the adjustment.

now with aftermarket clutches, that have a stiffer pedla, you can get stretching, but i forget what the sympotoms of a stretched out cable is.

The symptoms of a stretched cable are :

1. Having to tighten cable more than 80%
2. Broken clutch arm lever because of over-tightening.
3. Dropping the tranny to replace a 27 dollar part.
