Thread: Homemade CAI

Who has fabbed up thier own CAI for a NA B13. I think all it would really take is (2) 45 degree angles and some straight tubing, and some small nipples/ couplers etc. What diameter should the tubing be though, 2.5"? I used to have a hotshot CAI back in the day but I never measured the diameter of the tubing.

I made my own using some stainless steel mandrel bends from summit and some stuff I has laying around.
(1) 2.5" outer diameter, 45 degree bend, 4" center line radius.
(1) 3" outer diameter, 180 degree J bend, 4" center line radius.
3" adapter for the MAFS to 3" intake pipe
3" inlet air filter
3" coupler - MAFS to 3" pipe
2.5" coupler - MAFS to 2.5" pipe
2.5" to 2.75" coupler - 2.5" pipe to the throttle body.
Misc. small nipples.

2.5" from the throttle body to the MAFS. I drilled some holes in the 2.5" pipe and JB-welded the nipples I needed into the holes. 3" from the MAFS to the air filter. All I had to do was cut the pipe to fit, I welded nothing. I have yet to try it out as I am waiting for a header to be delivered.

get a 3inch, 10 inch radius, 180* U bend exhaust tubing from summitracing.com, cut in half and buy fittings for the hoses. thats what i did.. but from TB to MAF i think should be 2.5 or 2.75 inch tubing..i can post pics if needed......

Fo sho! Try it dude. I don't think it would be that difficult. 45 degree angle like you said and get a Bpi flow stack with a K&N filter and be done with it. The Bpi flowstack will mate perfectly with a 3" intake tube.

Or I'll sell you one for $130 shipped. 2.5" powdercoated with all clamps and a filter. I'll even thrown in a carb legal sticker. Red Silver or Blue...

If you make one I would go with an aluminum pipe, they are going to be a good deal lighter

PVC will give you the best results. Low surface roughness and low thermal conductivity compared to aluminum or steel!

I used stock tubing from a B14 to go from TB to MAF, It has no resonator attached to it like the Hi-port tubing, only has that one "kink" in the center and has all the vacuum fittings I need. I had that and an HKS Super Megaflow as a short-ram WAI setup for a while then someone gave me an old Honda intake that I got the muffler shop to cut in half to use as cold air tubing I put the pieces together with some couplers from AutoZone and I have a custom CAI now with the Super Megaflow in the fender well. It works really great I guess due to the shape of the HKS Intake and the fact that it has a velocity stack in its inner assembly. I felt the difference immediately and then even more so when the ECU learned it. It cost me a grand total of $18. Tubing from scrapyard: $2, free HKS intake (courtesy of ForZWin), and 2 couplers from AutoZone for $16 bucks. I'll post up pics
