im not saying they are or arent capable, but there are other much stronger much better rods out there, also much lighter depending on the brand,type,style... a real good build i dont think consist of stock rods..i dont think stock rods can compete with chromoly, titanium, ect that other rods are made of.

I think this is a given. 10.0:1 sounds much too aggressive. Remember this is pump gasoline. I was thinking 8.5:1 (stock DET) and I'm not sure why you'd up the compression at all given the goals.

I am correcting you.

Rods in order of strength.

DE rods

DET rods

GTIR DET rods.

The rods thickness can be seen just by placing them next to each other.

GTIR rods are some big bad mothers. I would not attempt to go 600 WHP with DE or DET rods for any long period of time. Reving a GTIR really high is not something I would do either as they are some what heavy.

I would run Crower, Saenz, Pauter, or Carrillo rods for a 600 WHP plus build.

9 to 1 pistons could attain 600 WHP on pump gass with a VE head, but that would be with the high reving 2.L on Sr16VE cams or the lower reving 2.2L with SR20VE cams The VE head is very knock resistant. The 20V and VET head being much better than the VE head if you can get your hands on one.

Andreas you bring up a good point about the weight of the GTi-R rods. I figured they could handle the power without too much trouble but you've sealed the deal I think with the weight aspect taking into account the intended revs.

Aftermarket rods are a go.

News to me about the VE head being (more) knock resistant. Great to know (I'm such a VE noob).
As for the 2.2L that moves us up to 660WHP territory so I'm liking the 2.0L idea better.
So the 20V head I hear so much about, this is a 20 valve VE head? If so, really, a 20 valve head that's not crap? And one with VVL?
I'm thinking the price of the VET head gets us way off course so maybe we should nix that idea.

it is not a 20 valve head, that is the biggest misnomer out there. It is just a series of the SR20VE motor.

So it must have "20V" stamped on it somewhere or something? Where did it get its name? Or I guess more importantly how do you know if you're looking at one?

^^^I believe the 20V head came only in the P12 Primera in N/A form and X-Trail in Turbo form, pretty hard to come by...

I'd go with a Precision SC61 Turbo on forged pistons, rods, some S4's, and all the fuel stuff necessary, I've seen those Precision turbos make some nasty power for a low price, lot of bang for the buck there.
