x2 on this. this is a very common practice in heavy duty trucks. the oil sample can give you a ton of info on what's going on inside the engine.

yea bro they find everything and they tell you whats going on.. we sent an oil analysis from one of our haul trucks.. it came back with a bad sample it had brass material and dirt all over the oil.. we checked the rod bearing and bearings on Cyl# 16 and 9 were shot.. really good company...

theres a story of one of our co-workers was gonna buy a van from a dealer.. and she asked if she can borrow the van to do an oil sampling. the dealer said fine.. when she did the anaylis on all of the powertrain and engine.. it came back with a bad sample on the transmission.. she told the dealer about it.. and said she would buy if it gets the transmission replaced, so the dealer went ahead and replaced the tranny and bought it..Smart one there...

Thumbs Up for CAT!!

UOA thread - best I've seen
One of the best discussions I've seen how to interpret UOA and on engine oil in general, see this link:

VQ Oil Analysis and Info

Some of the issues are specific to the VQ35 in the Z and G Coupe, but it's all good.

I get mine done at Blackstone. I tried to start a UOA thread here on the forum, but it hasn't caught on yet... It is here:
