If the motor goes bad you can buy a JDM motor for $450 and put it in.

There is no sure shot on a 16 year old car.

Or drop my DE in when I swap My DE only has 30K miles since it was rebuilt.

Yeah, but not everyone has the time or money to drop in a new engine. I sure as hell can't, don't have the tools and I need my car daily. Once school starts, I only have 30 minutes to get from school to work and the only day I have off is Sunday If my engine took a dump on me, I'd be screwed. You can get a car loan, but not an engine replacement loan. I mean, unless you're a mechanic with all the tools, it's not like replacing a shift knob.

Just make sure to white glove the car. Look at everything possible. Then offer lower. $2500 for a classic SE-R that is stock with that mileage is rediculous. JDM motor 40k miles ago or not. I picked up a 96' SE-R with half the mileage and for a lot less money. not to mention the clutch needs replacement and the a/c is probably useless. I wouldn't go for the car just because it's an SE-R. That price is high IMHO, but then again, a car is only worth what you think it's worth. Try to find a car from someone who isn't an enthusiast. Most people still treat cars good, but won't be looking for a high resale if they don't know what they got. I just saw another SE-R with more miles and in about the same condition go for twice what I paid. But, that person knew what he had. They guy I bought my car from though someone just cut the springs and painted them green. Go figure he sold me the car for just about what the TEIN COILOVERS were worth.

80k miles or 200k miles, doesn't really matter. What matters is how the car was treated.

That's true to an extent too. I mean...look at Vadims engine on his 99 SE-L. My dads 93 prism he bought brand new back in the day still looks brand new compared to that engine.

However, there's a lot of miscellaneous stuff that comes with high mileage. Things eventually wear out that nobody things about replacing. Sit in a seat that is brand new vs one that has had 200k on it. How good can the paint really be after being on the road for that long. Etc etc. Either way, it doesn't really matter...you can always use it to lower the price of the car. Good for you, bad for seller, owell.

Tell him to go for it...these cars are harder to come by these days.
