Haha, well that plus more power is nice

If you want the pulleys I'll sell them to you for $180 shipped

Or you can just on these: http://www.sr20forum.com/naturally-aspirated-performance-parts/236303-ur-2-piece-sett.html

Unless you had really bad old cracked lines with leaks... I don't think Shell Black had that problem.

Ahh in that case thats very believable.

I think both helped.

The pullies actually improved the mpgs and the silicon vacuum hoses improved the existance of vacuum leaks from minor rubber-aged cracks.
New silicon hoses is a great thing (no more vacuum leaks)

Interesting, I'm pretty sure I have a hose that is cracked and causing me to get crappy gas mileage.

Now as for silicon hoses, most that I've seen are softer and rip easier... why are they a better replacement then?

Is there some ghetto way of checking a hose for leaks? I don't want to start randomly replacing hoses

I don't think Shell Black got very much out of them. If you remember his SE-R you know how clean he kept it.

Silicone hoses are more heat resistant. They resist the drying and cracking of traditional rubber hoses.

There are hoses that are nearly impossible to reach but it can't hurt to replace the easy ones. Test with some arb cleaner while the engine is running. If the engine speed inreases temporarily you found a vacuum leak. I think thats one way.

I don't think I was around when Shell Black was actively in the community.

You mean carb cleaner?

I'm thinking one of the pipes towards the gas tank is gone. I will try opening up the gas tank and making sure everything is alright in there hehe.

I installed a very good Silicon Vacuum Replacement Kit from robchaos. They will not crack, split, collapse, shrink or leak.

The Replacement hose set are very thick. This set comes with all of the different Inside diameter sizes to replace every vacuum hose required and the install is very straight forward: Remove the old hose, determine Inside diameter, cut the correct new hose to the same length and install the new hose. Very Easy. And the silicon hoses will last as long as your car (probably longer with the ages of cars )...

Vadium.. I added the link to the thread describing the kit.

I was about to replace my hoses due to hard & cracked up hoses on my car (and some of them was only 3 years old). Then I saw these silicon hoses and was happy that the kit included all of the SR20 hoses needed. I replaced all of my vacuum hoses and eliminated the possiblity of vacuum leaks as possible problems for my car.

Ahh that does sound pretty mighty interesting .

What kind of hoses are we talking about? What are the odds that it would have the 98/99 emissions hose types?
