Thread: This freeking AC... AC woes Again!

That doesn´t look like the original compressor clutch assembly, looks like it´s been adapted. I don´t know in the US, but here in Mexico you can get the clutch assembly replaced for quite cheap...

Ameen, you do need to be a bit careful with this. On my old SE-R, I fought with the AC for several months at one point, and during that time one of the compressors I put on did in fact seize - while I was moving, no problem, belt kept the pulley turning. As soon as I stopped (in my own driveway luckily) the heat from the seized pulley melted the belt, and the belt stuck to the pulley. When I started the car next, the belt snapped. No belt = no alternator either. You can see where this is going.

That loose part of the magnetic clutch really baffles me. I have no explanation for it, other than to try another compressor.

Take your compressor to an A/C rebuild shop and have them replace the clutch assy.

Hell, just rebuild it yourself! You can buy everything at Parts America/Checker/AutoZone.

Do a write up for anyone else while you're at it (since you're the uber guru with write ups )

I found the AC clutch bearing for like $40, the clutch hub's only $4x.xx, spacer shim kit is like $15.

Its different because its a 98 compressor... it hasn't been modified. All the ac components are slightly different... the compressor is fine though from the looks.
