how to remove old headgasket
What can I use to scrap off the remnants of a old headgasket without scarring the block? Anybody have any suggestions

can u use those even though the block is already assembled?

I can't just take a scrapper to it...lol

i believe so, use RTV to seal up the small holes and the compound wipes off pretty easy on the other stuff. I'm going to order one from Toyota in a week if you want to barrow it.

Copper scraping tool? I'm a fan of the razor blade + patience/care. Although, I've never done this, only cleaned up the upper oil pan gasket areas. I'm really just shooting from the hip here. Maybe try prayer?

Z, arn't you using a metal headgasket?? you should lap the head and block anyways.

i would used it but at slow speed and then check it with a straight edge. that's what I used to clean off the intake and exhaust gaskets.

Yes, what is wrong with this method? I am also curios. I know lapping gives a very good surface finish, but I don't see what's wrong with the razor blade method as long as you avoid scratching it with too much pressure and make sure to clean it well.
