Make sure your grounds and connections are clean and solid. Otherwise, the gauge itself may be messed up. Almost looks like it has some play in it that it shouldn't. When I pulled mine and replaced it, it did not wiggle so quickly even when free (like playing with the needle with finger), as there is a good amount of mechanical resistance in there.

i'm taking the cluster out in a couple of days to check it out... i'd like to replace it for another one since it's a little scratched... maybe that'll fix it......

Whoa, enough with the russian guys. It is probably the connection to the coolant switch. It is the single connection, it gets grease, oil, and other crap in there and causes a bad connection.

clean the connector with some good cleaner and make sure the switch is clean to. Reconnect and voila.

No, no el rojo, el otro que esta pegadito, de un solo conector. Limpialo bien y aprietalo.

Coheed is referring to the water temp sending unit. The contact gets loose and engine vibrations cause the needle to fall back to cold as the contact is broken. Sometimes the sender needs to be replaced.

correct, the gauge sensor is actually a 3 way switch. it reads cold, warm, and overheating haha. Hence, coolant temperature switch.
