I was talking about all of the rebuild parts, gaskets and what not. I don't know if my goals warrant buying forged goodies. I would love them but,the cheapest I have found for rods and pistons on ebay is $730+ $50 orso for shipping. That is way out of my budget.

I did add it up and realize that realistically it will be closer to $800. But I already had some parts so they are already paid for. The majority of the money I spend will be on simple yet maintenance items.

I can see why someone would want to stick with stock, cast pistons even at the same price of forged.

Wow, that discription is misleading and wrong. GTi-R pistons are not 8.3:1, they are the exact same as all the other turbo pistons, 8.5:1. The reason the R has a 8.3:1 ratio is because of its hemispherical head, not the pistons. Just FYI for everyone.

And btw, I would ditch the cometic HG and go OEM VE if it's not to late. OEM seals better from all the tests I've seen.

The OE 20V MLS gasket is the one to get, but they can be hard to source sometimes, which is why I have used the cometic. I have had zero issues so far pushing 21psi constantly and I plan on taking her to 24psi soon.

The R rods will work in a standard DE but the cranks are different. The bearings and everything fit just fine. If you have GTiR rods then get some ACL GTiR bearings and you are good to go. The bearings will fill up the journal of the crank.

At any rate, just get the right bearings and use those rods, you already have them and they will work great.

I was aware, but good job pointing it out for those who weren't. I may do the ve as opposed to the cometic, I'll read up on it a bit.thanks.

I know that a lot of people in the DET community love the cometic, but the fitment on the cometic was not as tight as the stock one. The alignment dowels fit very snuggly on the stock gasket but the cometic is a lil looser.

I was measuring the rods today, and only found that the GTI-R rod was beefier from big end to little. The girth so to speak. I still don't know where the 17mm and 19mm come into play, as they are the same width. I'll get some pics of the measurements for the stock rod and the GTI-R rods.

The right bearings could also just be factory nissan bearings for a GTI-R? Cause $75 for rod bearings is a bit much. But if it's really worth it, I might sacrifice another $35-40 and bj from the wifey . Thanks for the input.

i spent a load on parts last month and i decided forged was the way to go for only 200 more than the cost of oem det i got aluminum forged pistsons/rods.

if time is any issue stick with the cometic HG i have been waiting for weeks on my VE HG.

i believe if my memory serves correctly that the gtir rods are a direct bolt in application on the de/det cranks. yes they are a bit wider as they use 19mm bearings but you can either use de/det bearings or gtir bearings, there is no need for machine work to the crank to fit them. It doesnt matter which bearings you use, if you can find a correct set of gtir bearings i would use them, why not. its more surface contact area.
