X2 but maybe better performance muffler..

I don't know but I'm trying to do the same with a budget and durability, so far JWT popcharger, installed, F1 stage2 clutch & flywheel kit.installing on the 27th. KYB & hyperco gen 2's.installing on 23rd ,,2.5 header and downpipe, and getting a VRS catback system on the 27th..installing them both together when system comes in .. and the final thing Zex dry shot (50) installing sometime in March.... it's took me awhile to put all this together and I think this is going to be fun as hell..thinking about cams no that I've done some research on this great forum of real life info..... GOOD luck

thats whats put me off, oh yea and the $500+ asking price!

The s3r's are a different variant than the conventional cams. You can run stock timing or up to 19 degrees with them on the stock ECU n/a. If you hear valve float, back off timing.

I've had a wierd experience with them, when I installed them I didn't feel much of a difference at first because they are moderate, But after driving with them for a while it feels a little better. I just think the 98 ecu is touchy touchy for some reason. If you get s3r's go in with low expectations; they are not s4's.

If you get them reset your ECU for a day or so, and don't be afraid to Drive Hard after your break them in. There is NO difference down low with these cams... the difference is between 4.5ish and Redline. Unfortunately, if your rev limit is held at 6.5k or so you can't take full advantage of the cam. My rev limit is 7.1k and the **** climbs so fast after 5k is hilarious; i still sometimes hit the limiter.

I can tell you after having these in for roughly 8 months or so that the car DEFINITELY is faster on the highway. It climbs to 100 very fast.... 3rd and 4th gear feel a lot better.

I honestly think if you got a lightweight flywheel with these cams, an intake, full 2.25 or 2.5, high flow cat, and a header, and some thermoblock spacers... you will have yourself a really fun daily driver. Since I've sold my b13, I've been enjoying my b14 a lot more and the car is just a blast to drive.

I just bought a fidanza flywheel (the last mod), and I'm pretty excited about what the car will feel like after it. I'm actually scared, because it was breaking 2nd at high rpm when it was a little moist yesterday just holding gas down (no clutch) and that's with the stock 22lb flywheel.

okay, what should i listen out for in terms of valve float?

yea its just getting my head around a $550 part when a VE is only $1300~

i think my limiter is ~ 6800rpm , but it definitely hits 7k on the rev meter (innaccuracy) before i hit the limiter

ive also read good things about the fidanza, i suspect it will help more in your case, cos my primera weighs about 2800lb! i think the smaller and lighter the car the better the effect will be but yea i have heard that they make for good acceleration.

this is how it was running the other day with only 17" and mis adjusted TPS!

VE's are unfortunately no $1300 in the UK...more like £1300. Then fitted, piggy back ECU and other snags along the way. you'll be close to £2000.

If you've got a eGT get some S4's. Along with the usual bolt-ons.

I didn't notice that much difference with the Fidanza...but Its better than before. Also a decent ACT clutch is a great mod.

ah right, prob easier to drop a det in~.

i have a 99 P11 GT LE, so RR motor and S3R#s are pretty much the only option, disregarding Piper and Kent etc

Nick, have you considered Catcams? I am currently talking to their UK supplier as I want to put something other than S3R's in my Almera. I dont have a problem with JWT, I just fancy something different.

It's a good thing you aren't looking for MASSIVE amounts of power because there is no way in hell you are going to get it NA. Muwahhhhh

Having 140hp is like driving in slow motion. (runs and hides from the flames)

You dont need a DET to be fast. With sensible good quality mods and plenty of research you`ll get great, usable power without the fear of stripping gearbox teeth and snapping driveshafts.

It just depends on what you think "fast" is. Having a few bolts ons and cams can be decently quick but surely not "fast" by any stretch of the imagination, but this is my opinion.

You do need a DET to be fast unless you think 150whp is fast then no, you wouldn't have to buy one. Great "usable" power and FAST are two TOTALLY different things in my book.
