You do need a DET to be fast unless you think 150whp is fast then no, you wouldn't have to buy one. Great "usable" power and FAST are two TOTALLY different things in my book.

Depends what type of driving you do. Im guessing in the US it's alot of 'freeway' rolling start racing..where the obvisous winner is out and out BHP.

But if you wan't a fast track/road...(bare in mind we mainly have narrow twisty roads)...a car that spins at 100mph is just not usable, and our $9 a gallonfor fuel is a snag

No, not close to being "fast"

You are calling the 250hp 3500 pound Golf fast? You need to take a ride in a 350hp 2500 pound car.

I don't want this to get too far off topic, I was just giving the thread starter a little **** since he is on the local site too.

i agree the weight differences to pwer ratios in cars is a big factor as to what is fast and what is just high horsepower in a fat car lol.

now take that 250hp golf motor and put it in a car 1200lbs lighter and it will be quick, but not fast

the latest craze is DIY at home porting. just disconnect the intake tube, put a funnel in it, turn the car on, rev to 4k, and the pour a cup of sand into it.

you should see significant loss in compression. oh wait. nvm.

do some suspension work, solid mounts and the pullies are pretty easy to install compared to other items like the flywheel and other things

this man speaks true.

i made some DIY filled motor mounts, and they add to handling and general engine feel immensely!!

pullies im not sure on an RR engine, but mounts can be done for ~ $200 all in for all 4 imo!
