Thread: What's it worth in your mind? Good or bad buy?

Hey everyone! Old member who rejoined because after about 10 years I am looking to get another b13 Sentra. I had a rather heavily modded b13 in 2009 and miss it terribly. Just looking for some insight to this car a friend has (who originally got me into Sentra's) and I may be pulling the trigger on in the next couple of weeks.

1992 Sentra SE
Power steering present, but A/C and heat removed.
138K on chassis; unknown on motor, but believed to be around 50-60k.
All new body work and paint. Hood got botched with paint (turned out flat somehow...) and needs redone, but fresh paint all over with no rust.

He's asking $2,000. I feel like I am getting an absolute steal as he has lost all interest since doing the work. He went through a divorce and has a new woman in his life so his time is focused elsewhere. Said he's listing for $3,500 if I do not buy it.

In my country you will get a MOT passing, dencent looking cosmetically, it runs fast as claimed by the seller egg shelled Sr20. From that view, a real no brainer. But not being in the Netherlands like me a believe, -believe-, 1650 is a on the low side but not bad bidding starting point (and you will have the goodies).

Going to look at the car this evening. Have seen pics and video of it running so very excited about seeing it in person. Will be pulling the trigger on it so long as I see no issues.

I reread your post and I based my first reply on the 2000 coins. For European standards of second hand cars that of course with such long list of modifications and the seller decided to write this off in 15000 miles, price drops but overhere 3500, if I wanted a turbo and it has no issues and no rust, man, 3500 coins is still a bargain overhere. Of course I look at a T-28 turbo as what it would cost overhere (importing, shipping and another company making profit makes it a lot more expensive) and yes such configs are offered for 7000 - 8000 coins overhere and usually not sold. If the seller wants 2000 for it in your case it might be he prefers a good owner over the biggest amount of coins. But still 3500 is still very low overhere in Europe. Even if the turbo has been blown. (I assume here you won't let it rebuild by someone else in such an example, somehow overly expensive overhere).

The t28 is brand new. It has about 25 miles on it. He's including the t25 which came with the car and was in full working order when he purchased it. I loved the car. It has a boost leak (most likely, or a fuel issue), but I have an extremely reputable Nissan guy locally who already said he'll take care of it. My concern comes down to the roof had a shitty sunroof in it from previous owner. He ripped it out so there literally is a hole in the roof. He is having a piece of sheet metal cut, painted and set in it...but man is it ugly. I'm fine with it, wife won't be too thrilled. All in all, it's a 350 whp sentra that needs a little TLC and has some spare parts I could sell.

Wheeler dealers showed a part where the buyer knew he bought a sunroof, the mechanic responeded like hey there that is a good sunroof but was welded back in order (no real mention about getting a uncut interrior) but it was restored. Of course welding back in a plate won't be easy since it probably won't be easy to get it flexed with the roof but i'm only speculating here, no idea how and what. I'm not sure if swapping is your thing but such a config in a shell you really like and sell the other car with sunroof is not a bad idea. On the other hand I honestly don't know what such a car with decent engine will do. All in all a project I figured but just compare that with the involved labour and initial cost to buy something similar in the preferred shell or just convince your wife a bit, sorry. If I had a shed to store this, I'd do it. Last thing if you can get the interrior proper and someone weld it back in and add the painter cost, if it will blow like mad, what else you like.

I do think it has become a calculator issue based on what can be done on your own and what you demand and what you would like.

Is there no way to leave the sunroof and shade somehow everything stock from the inside and accept to have some odd looking glass part on it?

If you have the luxory to own this car and have good fun with it, wait it out for a good shell, willing to swap the thing which requires free storage and having daily driver three around, this is still a no brainer indeed. Yes I don't like the sunroof also, but such a car, overhere, man, buy it and the sunroof will settle, no worries there, just a bad taste maybe but who sells this config for such a price.

In the end with having storage place you could keep it empty for a better offer but I doubt it will come this well equiped. Here some calculator on how big that difference is might apply.

And then still, I wonder why seller gave up at this point, sunroof or not, I suppose he can accept the sunroof, still no boost? wtf?

One thing to mention if you can store it and part it out, what would it give to you? Some effort needed there but I figured there is effort necessary in any way you look at it.

I know him really well and he's a good guy. He has lost interest, but most important his son has a dirtbike and he wants to get one and an ATV and wants the garage for storage. He's 35 and focusing on a new woman and having toys to enjoy with his 11 year old son.

Storage is a non-issue I suppose. I have a 3 car garage. Swapping isn't my thing...The car is in good shape minus the sunroof and no headline. It's frustrating that those two things are so bad though.
