No since Todd left Saturday I put it together myself. Haven't had anyone else here to help.

I removed both the shift linkage and shifter stabilizer bar to remove the gearbox.

And to answer your other question why I keep running into these dumb problems, it's because I'm a dope. Lol

Besides the 1 miss g bolt you mentioned, there are 2 other bolts that go in that bracket, a short one in the hole inside of the hole (yes I meant to say it that way) and another longer one down lower, if your missing those then your engine an trans are tilting towards the firewall, which will put your shifter back and make it hard to shift.. similar to when we crack our bell housings lol..

From the pics that's what appears to be happening..

Do this.. put the Jack under the rear of the trans by the firewall and Jack up a little at a time, if the engine goes up freely you will probably notice the shifter going back into place an then be able to shift it.. then put those damn bolts in, they aren't "extras"

Lol. Now that I think of it, one time the cross member broke when I let my friend drive the car (he dumped the clutch pulling into traffic w the fx500) and the shifter physically moved a little until Todd and I fixed it. So it makes perfect sense about your theory

Jordan,
Your problem is not as unusual as some may think. I had a similar thing happen to my blue NX I had. It actually happened while I was driving. The middle bolt on the rear mount (the one you can't see and is harder to get to) stripped out and fell out. That's all it took for the car to be stuck in second gear because everything shifted that much. Hard to believe, but true. I'm pretty sure it put enough stress on the other two bolts around it that they might have loosened. Was a long time ago so can't remember exactly.

Thanks Ian!

Ok so I slowly jacked up the trans with the shift linkage connected. After about an inch, the shifter in neutral now sits MUCH closer to normal. I just have to get under there tomorrow to physically put in the bolts
