Thread: Yet another clutch cable thread...

Ok so last night my clutch cable broke, OEM and almost 11 years old, complaints. I needed a new one quick and every Nissan dealer need to order them. Anyways I picked one up a NAPA today and installed it and here is my problem...

It installed fine but I don't have enough thread on the cable to allow correct play when the clutch is engaged. Right now its way too tight, and engages way to fast and way to low... I have a JWT PP, disc, & flywheel, and I am aware of the copper reducer method, but that would give me even less length to play with. Anyone been here/there?

engages way to low ? if im thinking right, if its to short it should engage high...

The pedal is on the floor at the engage point...

Use the reducer and be done. Search it out.

I do not recommend the reducer. you should not need it for your car unless the cable is wrong.

your clutch cable is too tight as it sits now. make sure the one you have is for the 2.0 because the one for the 1.6 is 1 inch shorter. I do NOT recommend reducers or any other cheap way to try to fix this. I think you just got the wrong cable. See if you can loosen it up a little bit, if you are out of threads, then return that cable as soon as you can get the right one. Easy, reliable 10yr fix. Just don't forget to lube up that new cable. Most have set on the shelf for many years and the lube has dried out. Use a lube with teflon in it and it will work amazing, but that kind of lube is hard to find.

you can get it at a bike shop though. motorcycle clutch cables need to be lubed often and they even sell little kits to do it right.

ok, well after reading this the problem looks to be the cable for sure. I have had several issues with cables being too short, even on the 1.6 engine!

I know you can fix this with the right cable, but you may have to go to the dealer when you can to get the right one the first time.

I disagree, i have a brand new OEM cable for the 2.0 and it was still not right. I HAD to use the reducer to get it to work. And there is nothing wrong with the reducer, it causes no harm what so ever if done right.

Im with STRATTON, if the cable is to SHORT then the engagement should be higher. If the cable is to LONG then the engagement is closer to the floor. Thus the reason ppls clutchs WONT disengage with a stretched out cable. Because the cable is stretched (longer) the clutch wont disengage. I just put TWO clutch cables on my car in the past week cause advance sells some crappy cable with these cheap rubber bushings that compress and tear apart after two days. The shorter the cable the higher the engagement, the longer the cable the lower the engagement. Come on guys...
