Oil pressure switch, higher PSI?
The oil pressure switch on my SR20 is leaking oil, time for a replacement. From looking at the FSM, it will activate somewhere below 1-3 PSI, which to me seems crazy low for a warning indicator. My understanding is that idle PSI is around 11. Has anyone gone with a higher rated switch, and if so, what model switch did you use?

This is going to be for a track car, and my plan is to have a larger, more noticeable light hooked to this switch to alert the driver of an issue. There will also be an oil pressure gauge, so I'm not worried about the occasional flicker at idle. Just looking for any feedback from anyone that's done something like this and what their experience was.

Let me know if you want the P/N for the oem switch for whatever reason. I just got one recently to replace mine because leaky, but I am far from race car so I understand you want a different than OEM. Just a reminder if you find nothing you are satisfied with.

Just for the record, that OEM part number is 25240-8996E. I checked on RockAuto for alternate parts, but none of the OEM replacement type switches list any specifications, which isn't helpful, so I have to assume they are all equally low PSI values.

I'm looking at a unit from Longacre, Part# 40000, which is a 20PSI switch, and also the Auto Meter #3241, which is an 18PSI switch, and the QuickCar 61-711, another 20PSI switch. There are a few adjustable ones out there at lower values, but without an accurate gauge I'm not sure how you'd really set those with any accuracy.

VDO has a few switches that are slightly lower PSI, but also more than twice the price.

Not sure what brand gauge you're going to use, but VDO has some senders with a second connection for low pressure warning.

Have fun with this

Yeah, you're no help. LOL

The gauges I'm looking at don't have a warning indicator. I'm going with the ProSport EVO gauges. The gauges with a digital readout are very readable at the track, even with all the vibration in the car, you can usually get a good reading with a quick glance, and not have to worry about where a needle is pointing at some small number.

Anyway, I went ahead and ordered the QuickCar 20PSI oil switch, will report back down the road on how that works out when everything's installed. I also ordered a similar pressure gauge for the coolant line, so if the PSI drops below 4, I'll have an instant dash warning of impending doom. Our track car blew a head gasket because of a pinhole leak in the radiator, and the water temp gauge never saw it coming.

The dummy gauge claims another victim. At least this thread means a lesson has been learned.

Prosport makes a quality gauge. I have been using there brands for years and have had a few different models.

IMO the evo gauges are actually hard to read during the day, and just look terrible.

Check our the Digital Gauge line, although not on the front page of there site, you can still get them. I currently have these in my car and they are awesome. These also have a color band around the outer part of the gauge so you can usually see if something goes wrong through your peripheral vision.

Digital Gauges-Digital Boost gauges-Prosport Gauges, EGT, Water temp, etc..

Also you will need an adapter to use the stock oil pressure sender location.

Autotech sells a proper oil pressure sender adapter. The brass ones are not safe.

When you say they are hard to read during the day, I'm assuming you've seen them in person? Are both red and blue hard to read? I've seen pics of them installed and they looked nice, but I've never actually seen them in action. The Digital Gauge line you posted is actually my second choice, but may just get bumped up to top choice.

Agreed, if I was going to be using the stock location for all of this, I wouldn't use a brass adapter. I've heard too many stories of those failing. But I'm using a filter relocation kit (Greddy) which has additional ports for sensors that I'll be taking advantage of.
