Safe to remove evap?
I have a 1997 sentra with a SR swap. It uses many of the GA parts including the gas tank, evap canister, and vacuum valve but I think I uses a different electronic solenoid and unplugged the vent valve on the canister. I made it this was after a lot of consideration a long time ago and concern that the ecu would be able to detect if there was something wrong with the evap so that it would work for the swap and be obd2 compliant using the old parts. The 1997 doesnt seem to have a pressure sensor and even then im using a 1996 se-r computer and I havent figured out how it can actually test the evap except maybe with the o2 sensor.
I realize now that the system vent is always unplugged and open I think, but after the charcoal canister so that if it did testing it would have air flow then. It seems to pass the evap monitor Would be nice to close that vent when its not necessary I think
Anyway I'm thinking this ecu really doesnt have anything to detect the evap and it could be removed. I was thinking about putting a dual muffler split exhaust on my car and the evap components are kind of in the way. I was concerned about leaving the vent hose just open or if I should try to relocate the canister?
in reality I only believe it works sufficiently to what the sr ecu looks for and not necessarily properly. I just dont want it to be then venting out gas fumes constantly or to building pressure in the tank...
Is there another style of the evap system that mounts under the hood? My car is a 97 and it's in the rear bumper, but there's a nice cutout in the bumper cover like for putting muffler right there
