Thread: Oil cooler necessary?

Hi everyone. I have recently picked up an s15 sr20det motor which came with an oil cooler and an extended sump. I have an oil only cooled turbo on it and will be getting the motor tuned in the next month or two aiming for 300hp max. I also have put on a gk tech clutch fan which is meant to bring in 60% more airflow compared to the stock fan. Is it really necessary to run the oil cooler? The car is a daily and will see the track maybe 2-3 times a year and also encounter some spirited driving on the street.

If you live in hot/warm climates then an oil cooler is a bonus for longevity but not required. Being turbo and planning on tracking it some it is added security to run the cooler. The turbo will dump some serious heat into the oil under load.
