Thread: Dark brown sludge in old fuel filter

Haha. I am going to try to cut it open sometime this week and see what's in it. The new filter was extremely light weight, the old one I swear ways half a pound. It's amazing. If I get it open I'll post pics assuming whatever is in there doesn't kill me.

Even though I've had about a dozen B13 & B14s and even one B15, this is only the 3rd or 4th time I ever changed the fuel filter. You're right, it is something that gets completely overlooked. Since I replaced it this time with a cheap Duralast brand one (all Autozone had and I just wanted to get the car running) - I will probably order a Z32 from Greg @Gspec after 3-4K miles. That way I can see what comes out of the new one, if it's anything but clear gasoline of course

Like Jimbo said, check the tank. I saw one member on here that had one of the most sludged up tanks I have ever seen. If that's the case it's just going to clog up again.

Good old logic at work on this comment. I love it. I would def. check out the source of the fuel and not relay on dirtying another filter in X amount of time. Too much of a gamble at this point for the OP.

Would that have been my thread, or was someone else worse off? I was pulling out sludge by the handful...

Maybe you wouldn't have gone through so many cars if you did some basic maintenance when you first got them?

Oh I meant I had my first B13 over 18 years ago. So over 18+ years not that hard to have like 10-12 different cars. Some I sold because I got bored with, one I hit a deer, one I was rear-ended in (both totaled), a couple I bought simply for parts etc.

I'd just like to point out that when we say we've done something on a car we are selling, its done (including fuel filter or whatever) but I guess we are just rare and honest and give too much info when selling a car.. lol
