To add my two cents, which are worth exactly that, about cam gears. If your looking for a simple setup, no, cam gears are not a must, NA or Turbo. If your wanting to fine tune your power delivery then they are useful. If you have them already might as well install them.

Also since you are Turbo, depending on your manifold, you might need them to dial back the overlap of S4's. Avenir or GTi-R Manifolds should be fine but log manifolds don't like that much overlap.

I'm just clearing up misleading info, @Vadim. Not starting anything. I believe there's nothing wrong with that?

The statement that @Storm88000 typed is untrue and I'm just correcting it. Don't take it personal Jordan, please, lol.

Here we go again with misleading information lol. How did you conclude that Na setups don't have the need for cam gears? I'm very curious mister lol. I'm 100% percent sure that all the fast all motor guys would disagree with your statement.

Oh great, you're back. That 6 week ban sure went fast.

And I've been working on these cars for 16 years+ - cam gears don't make much of a difference in NA bolt-on cars. I've had them.

Btw, do you happen to have the dyno sheets of the testing that you've done? I'm curious to see what the differences where.

First, cam gears are SUPER EASY TO INSTALL. If you find this job hard, move on to tonka toys.

Second, flexibility in cam timing is better than no flexibility. No matter how you look at it.

Third, YOU HAVE TO DYNO TO DIAL IN THE CAM GEARS. No bench racing, real numbers.

Fourth, they are not expensive. I sold my last set of CS gears for like $140. That's not expensive for some really good cam gears. If you think so, move on to tonka toys.

Fifth, it surely doesn't matter what engine they are on. Any engine will benefit from cam gears EVEN IF YOU RUN THEM STRAIGHT UP. Why? Because you've tested your engine and found optimal power/range. Something you're just straight guessing with 0/0 stock gears.

Dont take it from me, go do testing yourself.

That's exactly the point. For a NA car making 140WHP, meh, not really worth it.

You can even make your own adjustable cam gears if price is of concern.

Several CG13DE engine builds I've seen, have had homemade cam gear solutions.

Example 1:

File down the dowel slightly, to gain few degrees adjustability with stock gears

Example 2:

Extend the area that the dowel can travel in.

Example 3:
Remove dowel completely. Use diamond powder between the bolt and gear, to securely tighten it down. This is extremely dangerous on higher powered cars, and should only be used on N/A cars.

Would anyone dare this on an SR?

If you do that, you should really be using a degree wheel to ensure the accuracy.

Just to follow up. I installed the cams and gears straight up! That way whenever I do get to a dyno and want to mess around with them I can. John will be doing an etune for me in the mean time.
