Thread: Anyone run into this issue? (ES shifter bushing install) ?!?!

Or take a dremel and slot the top so you can get a flathead on it to keep it from spinning, but it becomes a 2 person job

Dremel woulda been my first choice , that's gonna be your best friend . All else fails there's always brute force. I wish they would've designed it differently and even underneath if the nut wasn't attached with a washer I'd say use a nutsplitter but obviously not gonna work. And after dealing with the same issue myself and finally resolving it with those two back bolts , don't one of the front nuts break off on me :/ . Anyways I've seen tons of zip ties used on srt's and other cars but I commend you on that amount of gangster to use it on the whole shifter assembly lol.

LOL, yep. Without the zipties, since the OEM bushing is ripped, the entire shifter assembly just rests on the cat. It's driveable but a pain in the ass to get into certain gears. Hopefully I get that damn thing off tomorrow.

Bushing is in! Had to dremel and drill the hell out of the cabin bolts. Then grind down the lip of the new one as @Kyle said. Took like an hour. Nice notchier feel in the shifts now

Absolutely LOVING the combination of the B&M short shifter with the ES bushing. Seriously wonderful. One of the best mods you can do IMO because you use it all the time, everytime you shift gears. The bushing actually made more of a positive difference than the short shifter. For anyone who wants a great useful mod that they will enjoy over and over, I really recommend this setup. Feels almost like a new car. Shifts feel as precise as my brothers brand new WRX.

I'm left to wonder what the point of these nonsensical bolts was. Leftover parts from something else, or did some engineer really have a specific purpose in mind?

I wish I knew, haha. From how thin and (ungrabbable) the OEM ones were up in the cabin, its as if Nissan never intended them to be touched. (Prob didnt)
