Yep, tried that. The thing is it's not a matter of accessing the nuts, it's that they spin and spin and there's nothing to stop them. Even had a 2nd person sit in the car trying to hold them and they are so thin you can't get a socket on them, or pliers. Appreciate the input tho.

So the assembly is still rusted up top. I think I'm going to take a crowbar to it....

Jordan, do you have a Dremel? I'm thinking a Dremel with a grider attachment, grind the shit out of the heads and knock them down and out, replace with some stainless hardware and call it a day.

I had ran into the same issue a few months ago both of them kept spinning and what makes it worse is there's nothing to grab onto they're so thin up top. Tried hacksaw/saws all first to no avail , ended up drilling them a bit after breaking a few bits switched it up and brought out the chisel and mallet and made it my bitch. Just watch prying too much the metal is pretty soft around there as I found out. Wish I'd invest in a Dremel one of these days to make things easier for once as Todd suggested.

Do have a dremel buried somewhere. May try to fix this on Sunday when we do my A/C. I've been driving around with a ziptied shifter assembly for a month. haha

^^Yep, that's EXACTLY the problem. If there was some sort of regular sized nut up top (in the cabin) it would be simple.

you can also just drill it out from the top.As soon as the head is drilled off it will pull right out
