SR20DE B13 Rough Idle/dies
Hello, my SR is having troubles. No matter the condition outside, I have to turn the car on and depress the throttle till the car is warmed up for it to stay running but when it does idle itsself it's rough and low. I have adjusted the IACV, throttle cable and TPS. The car didn't come with a o2 Sensor but has no check engine light. 19* advanced timing , premium fuel, new plugs and wires. I just did a valve job on it. Could the cam timing be off a little bit? Sounds like a small misfire on one of the cylinders. Should the IACV be cleaned? And should I get a o2 sensor?

Cam timing is always a possibility if you didnt check it properly.

I helped a friend with his nissan, it wouldnt idle after a headgasket change. Sounded rough and idled low. Exh cam turned out to be one tooth wrong.

Did you check the colored links on the chain? I would pop the valvecover off, and rotate the engine until the links match up.

Timing is most likely off then. I will check them tomorrow. I put the engine to TDC when I did the head. I didn't see any colored links or marks or anything on the chains.

Still can't find any colored links. Changed timing. Got the cams to line up properly but I think I messed up the crankshaft timing. The pin is over the two white marks I think it's 15 btdc? I'm not sure. When the dizzy is advanced all the way it runs a wee bit better. 92 octane fuel is in the tank

Classic timing error.

Soo. you're saying you cant find any colored links? No worries, there is still hope. Remove Cyl1 sparkplug, and throw a stick/extension down there. Rotate the engine until you find true TDC (when the stick is at its highest). Verify cam sprockets pointing in something like this:

Timing is perfect now, stock timing. Runs great when driving. except it won't idle, at all. It turns on for a second then dies. But all the power and everything is there now. Cleaned the IACV not to long ago. Still stumped
