Thread: Car Never Seems to Reach Operating Tempurature

I have a 92 with 240,000 miles it has a swapped JDM engine. I had the motor in my 200sx and never had any issues. really since I have had it in my B13 the engine temps at least from the gauge never get up to a normal temp it always stays close to cold. Last year I replaced both sensors the one wire that goes to the gauge cluster and the two wire that runs the fans I think. I just replaced the thermostat last weekend and still no difference. I did check the hoses and the thermostat never seemed to open and it didn't seem like the car was getting very hot because the heat wasn't even great. Now the one wire sensor wasn't reading and I couldn't find a break in the wire so I ended up running a new wire from the sensor to the instrument cluster. I am running out of ideas and am wondering if any of y'all have any input. Thanks

You are probably using the wrong temp sensor for the instrument cluster (1 wire)

I hear that the stock gauges don't work very good after they are aged. Check with a scanner under live data and see if it gets up to 210ish. I believe the fans turn on around there

Dala I used a wiring diagram and it looked like the one wire sensor just ran to the gauge. As far as the sensor itself I had the same one I was using in my B14 which worked fine then swapped it out with a new one from advance.



I don't have a scanner so I can't check it that way. I should get one at some point I guess. I was wondering if there was something other than the gauge just because my heat in the car isn't great.

You can get a laser thermal probe, I've seen them for under $20, aim the laser at what you are checking the temp of, instant reading. You can aim it at the block, valve cover, radiator, thermostat housing, etc. Get all sorts of good data on actual temps.

I still think you are not using the correct sender.



Let me guess, your ECU is a pre-93 ECU, and you put a 93+ gauge into it?

It has the stock ECU and gauge

Yes, I worded that wrong. I meant stock gauge and sender. In other words:

-92 ECU & cluster
-92 Sender???


I would bet money on the resistance being the wrong range for your ECU.

...it worked in your B14 but doesn't after you swapped it into the B13...did I read that correctly?

Yeah it did have the sender from the 95 but I swapped it last year with a new advance one which did change the gauge from not working to working but it fluctuated a lot as in would raise up hill and as soon as I let off the throttle it would go back down. My brother may still have the one in the intake that was in the 92 before the swap that I could try.
