Thread: oil pressure sending unit threads...adapter?

Need an oil pressure gauge for quick ve swap. Seen mixed info on sending units coming with different thread pitch and wont go right in there. Ive seen people recommending brass t', nissport adapters all this crap.

Just looking for a link while im at work so I can order when I get off and get the thing in the mail!

Want to run an electronic oil pressure gauge. Thinking of having the sending unit mounted to the firewall but idk whatever works. Just hit me up with what you guys use, i dont want to grab an adapter and find that the sending unit doesnt fit cause of space, or a sandwich plate that leaks.

Oh I forgot to say i want to stay away from a cheap brass fitting, some ppl say they last some say they crack, I dont care what they do ill go stainless for an extra 20 bucks or whatever.

As someone who has had those adapters break, I would also get a braided hose to take the weight of the sender off the adapter. I've had a stainless fitting break because of the weight and I was lucky to have caught it before the pressure dropped too low. Others have not and lost engines.

So, clarifying that, you are putting the stock sender on a braided hose, then the hose to an adapter? Where/how are you securing the sender at the end of the hose, and how long of a length of hose are you using?

I've been concerned in the past about the size of that sender hanging off the side of an adapter, and the vibrations potentially causing stress fractures over time, but never saw this happen firsthand. One thing about having the sender on the end of a hose would be that the readings would be lower than expected as a result?

No, I use an adapter with the stock sender connected to that, then a 10" hose with the sender for the gauge connected to that. I secured the gauge sender to the back of the manifold, or you can use the firewall.

The reading should be the same at the end of the hose. The psi should be consistent throughout. If you get a lower reading at the end of the hose then your oil pressure dropped throughout.

Yeah I planned on mounting it to the firewall, I read about it somewhere when I was looking for the link DaveM provided. I figured the adapter is designed specifically as a passage, not a brace. Thanks guys!
