Thread: Opinions on SR20

I torn between finances and performance.... i have roughly $800.. Should i go VE or upgrade the DET internals? I'm loving the VE but I'm also thinking about performance on my budget. The DET lower internals that will be replaced is Pistons, Rods, Bearings, and metal head gasket. Would it be smart to go VE and hold off on performance upgrades or get the DET internals done and the fine a VE head in the future and upgrade to a Garrett T30? decision decisions.... then theres life lol i almost forgot this car needs to be done asap since it will be a semi daily car.

VE = Stock everything.

DET = Wiseco 86mm pistons, eagle rods, ACL bearings, Cometics Headgasket, and T25 JB.

i know for future presences the VE would be ideal, but i need the now lol

why upgrade the internals and use that money for something else. stock motors have been proven time and time again to work

So what your telling me is not to change anything, but how about just changing the bearings and head gasket? then getting the VE Head. then possibly a t28 turbo. Or should i just keep the DET head and just get T28? again decisions....

do you have cams in your det? if not get some s4 or bc2

t28 would be a step up definitely

sure you can do bearings but why open it up if there isnt a problem with the head gasket or the bearings

no need to open up any of these motors. drive them stock(internally) upgrade the bolt-ons. tune them correctly and you will have a blast.

YEah you don't really have to build up the internals of a DET. Guys have achieved great power and torque from the stock block.

You can search and read up on different project and the dyno resuls.

I kinda forgot to mention that one of the valves broke due to the chain jumping teeth.. sorry about forgetting the vital info ... but its either gonna be a rebuild or a replace for a VE. unless i can get another DET for a cheaper price and still do the upgrades.. @TrackJunky82 I have but the ones I've seen is Boring the block or internal upgrades and the usual upgrades.

I would go VE and use the DET turbo stuff to put on the VE

You'll have to spend more than 800 to get a quality ve and tune. Replace the det internals and go. Turbo has a more usable powerband for daily driving than ve n/a.

replace the valve if it didnt mess up the piston you are good to go
