Thread: Tranny issue

Well I think I know what the problem is but Ill get some of you guys output. So my tranny is whinning loudly 1st & 2nd gear and little in 3rd. 1st and 2nd sounds like I have a supercharger basically. It didnt start doing it till after I swapped the engine. I put full synthedic 75-90w gear oil in it. It seems to shift fine and be normal but makes the whinning sound which drives me crazy. Im just hoping it isnt gonna take a dump on me. Im gonna drain all the gear oil out in a couple days and check the drain plug to see if it has metal shavings on it. Ill also use a screen on everything that drains out. Hopefully I dont find nothing. If I do....Looks like Im gonna need another tranny. Advance in my area doesnt carry redline so what do you guys recommend me to run?

i run mobil 1 synthetic in mine, ive used mt90 and it seems like the tranny makes more noise with it than mobil 1, it appears that the mt90 is very very thin compared to the mobil 1 so im still currently using it and im on a boosted de+t on 14psi, S4 cams and i constatly mash the gas. so far the b14 tranny has held up for the last 10k miles of abuse so yeah its been good so far with no issues.

Is this something that started immediately after the engine swap? If so, there might be some kind of stress associated with the tranny mounting -- engine mounts forced into place, how the tranny drive shaft engages the clutch, how the shift rods were reinstalled -- something like that.

I'm just speculating and I'm not sure how to isolate the problem unless you remember something odd associated with the installation of the tranny or engine.
