The oil capacity listed in the FSM for the compressor is for a factory new compressor. The replacement compressors came with enough oil for the entire system.
This is a throwback to the days of ac being added on after factory build of the car.
The oil will end up spread throughout the ac system.
The drill for compressor replacement is:
Drain and measure oil from original compressor.
Drain oil from replacement compressor, and replace with amount same as from original compressor.

Too much oil in the system will result in very poor cooling.

Thanks, I actually read that in the FSM yesterday. My problem is that the shaft seal of the compressor shit the bed and leaked out a bunch of PAG, so the current level in the system is unknown. I think my best bet is to flush the entire thing and start over with a fresh 6.8-7 oz.

Let me know how it goes. My compressor went bad and after my ve is fixed back up, I'll need to find a new compressor

subscribed because I have had nonstop AC trouble with my NX since I got it...The compressor blew the pressure valve out on the test drive when I bought it na it has been vacuumed and recharged with 2 different compressors.
Theres obviously another issue. It cools ok sometimes but barely well enough to survive the FL summer heat..and then it comes and goes.
I sooooo wish I could find someone I trust to get it working right...but AC places in FL are the biggest ripoffs

A/c system are some of the most problematic aspect of a vehicle. The key to repairing them is to have the tools.
A vacuum pump
A set of gauge manifolds
A sniffer (not always needed if you know what you are looking for
O-ring kit.

If you are leaking from a fitting, replace o-rings. Hell you can buy a kit that replaces every oring for $15.
Once the leaks are sealed, you MUST vacuum the system. Trapped air and water will destroy and ac over time.
A/c system are so simple they are the most dificult repair item.
As for the pag oil. It comes and it goes. Now unless you recycle/ recover, you shouldnt have to worry about it.

Here is my plan, and if a success I'll post a "how-to" write-up...

- Remove compressor and dryer
- Flush both sides, high and low
- Drink a beer
- Measure oil in new compressor, add as needed for 6.8-7 oz total
- Install new o-rings, compressor and dryer
- Drink a beer
- Vacuum, vacuum, vacuum
- Check system for leakage, if good
- Run and charge with approx 24 oz (low end of system capacity)
- Proceed with drinking more beer

Please correct me if necessary. You won't hurt my feelings.

@eggman see post #2

If you still have the original condensor, I'm guessing it's clogged with 20+ years of debris...and while your right there you might as well replace the drier.

Where O WHere is @bhowle He is a genius when it comes to A/C systems. He will make that A/C a bonafide refrigerator.

Most definitely replace the dryer, it's cheap and easy. And if you have both the compressor and dryer off you might as well flush the system.

@SE-RMonkey keep us updated. I have three ac jobs I'll be doing this weekend all dealing with leaks. I'll try to post some pics and details that may help any one. Also, vacuum for 15min is sufficient. Be sure to wait 15 min afterward to verify a sealed system.
