Harbor Freight vacuum pump arrived today.

Here is the leak I found on my xterra. Its hard to tell but the sensor has a green tint to it from the oil. Pag oil has a flourecent yellow green color. Pag oil also attracts dust and dirt heavily. So keep an eye out for this odd dusty/ oily spots aroung fittings.I replaced three orings in all.


Here are my final pressures. The low side on a 80 degree day should be about 30 or so. High side is relative. I usually only pay attention to the high side only if the system is cycling which will be the case in 100+ weather.

The inside temp from the vent has to be at least 30 degree lower than ambient.

If you are going with a rebuilt or new compressor it should not come with the oil in it.
I just replaced mine with a rebuilt compressor and it stated in the instructions to add the recommenced amount of pag oil
witch should be 6.8-7.0 oz if just replacing the compressor or a additional 1.0 oz if replacing the dryer.
If the system was opened up always replace the dryer.
Pull a vacuum down to 28 hg for 30 min and hold or 30 min to check for leaks.
Charge with 1.5 to two cans of Freon and should read between 28 -32 0n the r34 gauges
if the system has not been in working condition or is questionable replace the expansion valve and the condenser.
