Thread: 225/50/15 tires on a 15x6.5 wheel

Anyone running these tire sizes on a 15x6.5 wheel? Thoughts? Comments? Concerns? I know that tire size is better suited for a 7" or 8" wide wheel, but I'm just working with what I've got

It can be done.. Its not pretty but it can be done.. it also depends on WHAT brand and model tire you are doing this with. A 225 45 15 Hoosier Tire on a 6.5" NO WAY but a 225 45 15 Nitto NT01 no problem (hoosier tires run wider than normal and wider than most other brands and models)

I think most (if not all) 225/45/15 will be competition tires. I'm looking for a street tire that's not as dinky as the 205/50s I have on now.

If you put a Nitto NT01 R compound next to a Hoosier Rcompound 225 45 15 you will see almost an inch of difference in width (its crazy) thus I would NOT suggest you try to stuff a 225 45 15 Hoosier R7 or older R6 on a 6.5" wheel. I've done it myself with a NT01 (it gets a little silly looking but it can be done)

Something to keep in mind, you really won't gain that much more contact patch because of the rounding (you really need wider wheels to get the full contact patch gain of wider tires)

If it were me, I'd stick to 205 50 15s on a 6.5" wide wheel because you just won't feel or notice the benefits of a 225 on a 6.5" wide wheel.

I run Yokohoma S Drives in 205-50-15. They are decent street tires.

Ive been looking into 225 tires and the toyo proxies r1r's look good and are not too expensive.

Guess I'll stick with a 205. I have a perfectly good set of wheels, and don't really feel the need to buy new ones. I wish there was an in-between tire like a 215 available in the size I need. Thanks for the help guys.

On a side note, and wider 205s available?

widest 205 50 15 is going to be a hoosier SM7 or R7

I have seen 225 50 15 mounted on B14 stock. It can be done.
