its just 2 bolts if they are out then I suspect maybe the gear is stuck out? maybe its jammed on the flywheel, and you can try rotating the whells back and forth to free it up. It should just fall right out...thats crazy

Starter bolts are out, for sure. Will try the wheels back and forth, but it's stuck for sure. One bolt from the battery side, one from the starter housing.

Should the car be on the ground when the wheels are turned or can it be on stands?

That y bracket was a bitch. My bro and law and I are going to take it and shoot multiple guns at it once the weather gets nice. I hate it, and will call all future foes y bracket from now on lol.

Will try this tomorrow. My help is gone and I start a new job in the morning so I am driving a Saab convertible as my winter daily right meow, lol.

Thanks all for the quick suggestions and help. Without this forum, we would have made no progress. I love nissans, but the bracket and starter placement is the worst. The. Worst. Ever.

Can you tell I hate this?

Def make sure you got the starter bolts out. One is very close to a tranny bolt. I dont get it either, once those 2 bolts are removed it usually falls out under its own weight. I always have to watch it doesnt come down and smash my face when I am under car.

With the car in the air rotating a wheel back and forth witht he car in gear is meant to hopefully turn the flywheel slightly if its in a bind but like others said them 2 bolts and it should fall out

Maybe the solenoid was stuck open to the starter gear is engaging the flywheel?

Or a bolt is still left in.

Jay's plan seems the best method of attack.

Maybe grab a large screwdriver or pry bar and whack the starter with a hammer to coax the thing out of the transmission case?

If the two bolts are out, you just need to wack it with a mallet.....the starter gets oxidized in there pretty good sometimes.....

Pb blaster, mallet, and hammer. Wheels have been turned. No go. There was oxidation which made the starter look like it was one with the trans. Just bought a giant screwdriver and some more whiskey.

Any other ideas, or hints? I think the wheel is still engaged, just can't get it to budge much. Also, with the white
One there, and not having it crazy high off the ground, it's hard to weild a hammer. My pry bar doesn't sit right in there at all.

Will update as I go along.
