Thread: Is this worth fixing? Matter of fact is it even fixable?

I found the culprit behind the crankshaft not turning. and here it is.... the gouge is bad but not to bad just worried about valves in the future.

I would say so too.

If you absolutely must, you could smooth things off and round the corners and have a workable engine. That is if you must (you use this car for your only transportation and you have absolutely no disposable savings/income).
Otherwise, I would be looking for a new head/engine.

Yeah im afraid im gonna have to get a new one. I don't think its gonna hold out for a while with the boost. Better safe than sorry and having to replace the block or at best pistons. Thankfully the cylinder walls didn't get affected by the valve, so the block is still good. Thanks for the feedback guys.

Looks like your's ended up a little better than mine....

That is very fixable. Just have it first pressure tested to make sure no crack=leaks. It can then be build up with welding and reshaped along with two new seats. But then a good used head may cost you the price of that fix. I've seen worse than that repaired with no issues.

^ that's just it, its typically cheaper to just buy a replacement head. I had an issue with the aluminum head from a miata and rather than try to get it welded and worked on for big $$, I bought a replacement core for $50 cash and it even had the valves and cams still in it!

definitely fixable but i see this as excuse to put a ve head on.
