Thread: Part That Attaches To Battery Cable Snapped...No Power!

The plastic part that holds the terminal can come off. I have a picture, but I am having trouble uploading it. Can I text or e-mail it to you?

Yes it will be part of the harness but you should be able to get a new terminal to replace it from autozone and then keep an eye out for an oem one at a junk or something. Just go down with the broken one and pics in hand and they should have something you can use. Dave

The terminal doesn't look like it comes out though. I took it to Auto Zone and he said that there was nothing I could do. I bought a soldering kit, but it doesn't hold very well and breaks apart again.

[email]kornhead37@yahoo.com[/email] You should be able to find a new terminal that will "work" like DaveM suggested. If if you planned on upgrading your car stereo I would say now is a good time to invest in a good terminal and lugs.

Just got the pic. You should be able to find that at a junk yard if you really wanted to. I would however strip back the three wires and crimp on some ring terminals and the get a nice battery terminal and be done with it. Just my opinion

Which wires? On the back side of the plastic piece there are 2 wires that connect into it with a plastic connector. Do you mean strip those 2 wires and attach a new terminal to both of them?

This red plastic thing is the fuseable link as @DaveM said. It is a glorified fuse. You can by-pass it if you'd like. It protects against fire in the event of a major shortage and protects the battery in the event of massive overcharging. You could by-pass it temporarily or permanently as long as you are aware of the risks. You could replace it with a suitable fuse or circuit breaker as well.

How would you replace it with a fuse or circuit breaker? I am a complete novice when it comes to electrical. I'm starting to think that a junk yard may be my best option.

Is the same fuseable link used on all SR20's or would I need a certain year to fit my 99 G20? Would I be able to use the fuseable link from a 2000 G20?

It would take some custom work. It sounds like you're in over your head though. Get someone else to help?

Luckily, a junk yard near work had a 2000 G20 and it still had it. It looks the same as mine and the 2 connectors still plug in fine, but I was noticing that it is still giving me problems starting. I noticed a crack on the positive cable that gets bolted to the terminal. I had to move the positive cable to make a good connection, but it finally worked.
