Thread: Part That Attaches To Battery Cable Snapped...No Power!

Hey guys,

I popped the hood and noticed that the part that attaches to the top of the battery cable snapped and now I have no power. I am not sure the exact name for it, so I couldn't search to find out if this has happened to anyone else. It's the red plastic part that attaches to the top of the battery cable and has a metal thing coming out of it. The metal piece is the part that snapped, so is there any way to fix it or do I need to replace it? I'm at work and within walking distance from an Auto Zone, but I just don't know how I would fix it.

I've looked for engine bay pics, but can't seem to find the part that snapped. There is a positive and negative cable, but there is a third cable that attaches to the positive cable. Where the third cable attaches is what snapped, but I can't seem to find any pictures with it. Is this on anyone elses car?

Ive forgotten what stock looks like it does sound like the cable that runs to the main fuse box in which case a new terminal with some "custom" finagling is in order.

It's the fuseable link part your talking about I believe. You'll probably have to locate one at a junkyard if you don't want to jimmy rig it back together. Lol. Dave

Any ideas on jimmy rigging it? There is a metal piece still stuck in the plastic part, but I need to at least fix it to get home.

To get it home I would use some vise grips, a load of duct tape and a preyer maybe. Or Safety wire the hell out of it.

I cant remember how the ring terminal is attached to the fuseable link but take a couple pictures and walk down to the autozone with the ring terminal that i'm assuming is still attached to the battery terminal to see if they have anything similar, I'm sure they can help you out. Dave

I called the dealership and they said that they don't have a part # for it. That it's part of the harness...is this correct? If this is true how would I replace it?

I don't think you can since its a crimped part. Once you have some pics I will be better able to help.
