Coil on plug ignition options
I've been looking around lately at all the options for coil on plug and while the information is there, its spread out and quite aged. So what kind of options are available to us? What works with what? Who's has success mixing and matching? Recommendations? Opinions? Any pointers, advice, criticism (constructive preferably), questions. What do we wish we had that other makes do? Have you found certain spark plugs work better than others, gap...?

What I am curious about and haven't been able to find much information on it is what, aside from the ignition drivers, is different between the b13 usdm ecu and the rwd ecu with respect to the coil on plug? Can the ecu trim individual cylinders? How does Nismotronic fair with the rwd ecu? Does having an ecu with 4 ignition drivers have more "tunable" option?

I recently did some research on COP, since I was in the market for a new ECU for Nismotronic. In the end, I decided that I only needed a regular USDM ECU with more I/O's.

I think NEMU+COP would be awesome, but;
-Expensive. Coils, CAS, RWD ECU = $$$
-Not necessary for low power goals
-Tricky to troubleshoot, for instance, one bad coil breaking up at high rpm

It would be nice to hear from someone that has actually set up a COP NEMU setup

A CAS swap is not necessary, which saves a lot of money.

IMO you have two main options...

1) Do motorcycle style coils with a CDI box. The Denso short coil with wide seal is the coil you want.
2) Do automotive style coils with built-in ignitors. The S15/20V/VET coils with the 20V valve cover is the cleanest install, but the Toyota (Denso) 1ZZ coils can work with a stock valve cover and save you a good bit of money.

As for Nismotronic and COP, I have no info there.

So our options really are limited?

I used a Haltech EMS with AEM CDI and AEM Coils with the stock dizzy to send a signal

Why did you choose CDI over internal coils?

I just went with what was most popular at that time but times have changed to the K Series smart coils. However i do like my pencil coils if the AEM Box would stay put

So is there no other options for COP other than standalone or RWD? No conversion kits?

The ECU would have to be set for direct fire and possible a need for a coil module to fire
