A/C Compressor Retrofit Recommendations
My 93 NX2000 A/C Compressor has finally quit.. Its a R12 compressor and has been dieing a slow dealth for a few hot summers..
Im seriously considering converting my A/C to R134a. Any suggestions for doing this??

Im not sure if this will work, but Im thinking of doing the following:

1 - Installing a R134a Compressor from a later Nissan model
. . What model/Yr will fit?
. . Will the mount lineup?
. . Will the pulley matchup with my belt?
. . Will the electric connections matchup?
. . Will the R12 Hi/Low Pressure cutout switch require replacing?

2 - Replacing all of the O-rings to R134a rings

3 - Using the R12 lines but installing the Low & High side Conversion fittings

4 - Replace the Expansion Valve

5 - Replace the Accumulator Dryer

6 - Flush the system (to remove the old oil)

7 - Evacuate the system & pressure test for leaks

8 - Fill system with R134a and the type of oil for R134a

Is this everything? Will this work?

(Guys with AC removed, I want your parts that will work here?)

Please detail your own work when installing this. Before next summer I plan on doing something very similar and would like to know how your install went. Good luck and keep us posted!

If I actually can find the parts, I will take pictures and detail the install.. Im just doing the hardware installation. Then I will go to an AC shop to flush/vaccum the system, add proper oil and add R134a. With R134 hardware installed, Im hoping to maybe find a shop with a A/C Service sale to do the work.

It's really easy to recharge them yourself actually with the charging kits at the parts store. Cheap too. Also I remember them having conversion kits to R-134 that were also pretty cheap. I might be wrong about that one.

I just sent you a PM of all of the AC parts from a B14. I took everything out including the exchanger in the dash. Let me know what works for you.

Sup Danja,
Agree with you but after installing the hardware, I really want to make sure it doesnt leak anywhere and that it is charged & oiled properly. First time only!! After that, I will maintain the system with the charging kits.. I have other cars with R134a and have cans of the stuff with the gauge..

squirlz,
Yep, I replied to your PM and it all works for me..

it sure is............but if you do it yourself you can not inject UV dye or pull a vacuum on the system.

scotty. let me know when you plan on recharging the system. i have 2 cans of quality R134a in my box at work, and we can pull a vacuum on the system with the machine at jen's shop. give me a heads up in advance and i will harass ed to get the machine filled and ill teach them how to use it at the same time.

Very, Very cool!!

Nick has all of the R134 AC parts that I need. Hopefully it will work b/c its from a 1.6L
He planning to ship the parts on Monday. I may need a few mounting brackets & screws if he doesnt find them.
But he has all of the major stuff. I also found some parts locally but may not need them.
I hoping to install the hardware over the 4th of July weekend.

The only parts that I will need to pickup locally is a new the dryer and new R134 O-rings.
Then if you have the R134 cans, I will need to get the correct R134 oil..

I didnt know about the vacuum pump at Jen's shop!! Thats great!!
Thats why I was taking it to a professional shop, as I didnt have a vaccum pump
and I dont have proper the AC Hi/Low Pressure Gauges (as my gauges leaks a little)...
Do they have a set of working gauges at the shop too??

I will probably be ready on Sunday, 6th July if you are available..
Just trying to finish this before the hot, humid July heat ! !

Didnt you remove the AC from your car too?? Was it a R134 system?
