Cam chain problem
Well, With the sprockets and tensioner off I can feel that the chain is on the bottom cog and gripping well...but once I put the sprockets and tensioner back on..I go to turn the engine by hand using the crank pulley and only the crank spins...and not the chain thus not turning the cams?

The only thing I can think is that the tensioner is not putting enough tension on the chain and it's slipping teeth. But it all looks nice and tight from above.

Any idea's lads?

Do you have the new tensioner? the old ones are known to suck

Could the bottom sprocket have backed off the woodruff key on the crank?
Been over a year since i had an SR20 apart and i can't remember how much movement would be possible on the bottom sprocket when the crank pulley is off, or even if the crank pulley would fit back on if it wasn't correctly located as you said you were using the pulley to turn it by hand...

Cheers for the replys, I've sorted it. Ended up dropping the sump again to get a better look, the chain had come off the cog....and it was turning by hand as it was jamming down the side of it.
