Car Won't Start! HELP!
Installed a 91 Highport Intake cam last night. Had trouble getting it on the gear, removed the tensioner got it all set right. the 2 timing marks on the gears were at 10 intake 12 exhaust looking from the passenger side to driver side. I am clueless to what this could be, ONLY thing I can think of is the Timing Chain Tensioner...But could that really stop the car from starting? Also why I did this I changed the fuel filter to a 300zx type.

Heres a video of what its doing:

ok for one when you put it all back together did you make for certain the crank was at 0* before you started puting the gears back on. when you loosen the tensioner a lot of times the crank will move back when the chain slacks. Also after you got it all together as fars as the gears back on and tensioner back in did you turn the crank over by hand 2 revolutions to make sure your cam timing was dead on and allow the tensioner to pop all the way out. If not you almost certainly skipped a couple teeth if you didnt. Definetly sounds like the cam timing is off, you can hear the popping in the intake or exhaust by the sound of the vid. Take the valve cover off again and put the crank at 0 and see where your cams are at. Should be 10 and 12 with 20 rollers in between each dot if.

If your crank is at 0 and your exhaust cam is not at 12 you more than likely skipped a tooth or two depending on how far off it is. So go back and try again. if you skipped it on the crank just loosen the sprockets and advance or retard them as necessary to get them all to where they need to be.

Yeah I just did the old fashion screw driver in #1 piston to make sure it was at TDC. I will make sure this time it's at zero though and crank it over by hand.

Got it running, the chain jumped a few teeth on the crank side so had to fix that. Pulls very nicely now

Told ya, haha, a few teeth huh, your very lucky it wasnt more than that. So what was it did you just not turn it over by hand to let the tensioner snap in place and check cam timing. Rull of Thumb Always double check your work. Hell i triple check and ive done these things like a hundred times. Better safe than sorry. Your just lucky it didnt go more and hit your valves cuz that would have sucked.

I just got your message about the highport cam on the other site. I hadnt been on there in like 2 weeks at least. lol. could have sold you a cam, Dang and i could have used the money too. Neways glad to hear its up and running with no damage. Could have been alot worse.
