Engine Lift Points on SR20DE?
I have rented a Engine Hoist from a fellow zilvia.net member. I'm going to use it to lift my extra DE thats in that laying on the garage floor and bolt it onto my engine stand. So I can work on it and shine it up. I might drill and tap myself, but not feeling confident on doing that.

My questions are:

1. Where are the engine lift points on our sr20's? I'm going to borrow engine lift chains from my job. The guy that loaned me the engine hoist told that his previous ka24e had lifting points, he now has a ka24de. He couldn't find them on my sr20 motor.

2. What bolt size should I use? Diameter/size and pitch?

3. Would it be easier to use the flat ropes that make that clicking sound and wrap around the engine, so then it could be lifted up?

Pictures will really help a lot!!

Help me out guys, I need to start tomorrow after the portugal vs. germany quarterfinal game, and then I have school later on that day so I'll be finished by friday afternoon.

I used a tow rope under the intake and exhaust manifolds, then looped the ends up to the hoist.

hmmmm I might try that, if the chains dont work.

Anyone else have any input they want to add?

Round these parts... we use a chain, and two longer twelve mm bolts through the head... If I recall, one through the top bolt on the alternator bracket, and on on the tranny side somewhere. Any way will work.

I actually used the engine hoist to pick up the car by the tow hooks and using 4 floor jacks to lower the motor and tranny as an assembly.

That seems like more work haha

I've lowered the motor to the floor with a hoist, and raised the car with the hoist, after.

Four jacks? I don't even own 4 jacks!

This sounds much easier for me to do. There's 2 open threads in front of the head and 2 more by the distributor side. Can I do it myself or it would be easier to have a friend helping out?

lol. I'm not removing my motor from my car, or dropping in new motor just yet. I have a spare DE in the garage floor that I need to pick up to put it on the engine hoist So I can work on it.

I just use a bolt hole on the pass side motor mount area, one on the front mount bracket, and one on the axle bracket area. It takes 3 lengths of chain, but it seemed to give me a nice level position for hooking up my engine stand.

As a side note, I found that it was easier to take the swivel part of the engine stand off the stand, bolt it to the motor, and then slide the stand back onto the swivel piece once it was bolted. You'll never get it to hang exactly level to just bolt it up. I have always pulled my motors out the top with the engine hoist, I think everything else just seems like three times as much work.

The thing that you'll most likely run into is that you don't have long enough bolts to get through the engine stand and into the block. I went to NAPA with a stock tranny bolt and bought a couple of real long ones. Also, you'll have to get a long starter-size bolt (8mm I think) for your fourth mount to the engine stand. I had to use one of the unthreaded holes to mount up to. Make sense?
