Tranny Bolts
While I was disassembling my engine, I found many of the tranny bolts were replaced with some sort of internal hex bolt (like it was from a machine shop or something). Better yet, none of them used the same hex size and one of them actually was way too long for it's hole and was sticking out.

To the point: I plan on replacing my tranny bolts because of this and a few other reasons, however with these fake bolts in I don't know the lengths I need. I don't even know what lengths are supposed to go where. If anyone has info on the length and location of the bolts to hold the tranny to the engine, or have theirs off already and can measure, I'd greatly appreciate it.

FSM > Chilton's. Chilton's = good jack stand extender

Jk they aren't that bad but if you have an FSM it's 100000x better.

I have books (including FSM), but they don't tell you the bolt lengths. I've looked. If it were that simple I would not have posted.

There are a variety of bolt lengths. They are not all the same.

No luck, eh?

I did look at the FSM again, and they only give torque measures, no lengths.

If the bolts are round head with ridges around the head circumference and a recessed hex opening for a wrench, and are black, then they are socket head cap screws and are stronger than Grade 8 hex-heads. They certainly are not "fake" bolts. And, yes, they are used in precise, quality machine building. As far as lengths are concerned, you can hack saw them because they are through hardened, not case hardened.

They are different lengths but same diameter I believe. Just grab an extra long one from the store and stick it in each hole as far as it will go to measure it. For that matter you could probably just use a screwdriver and a permanent marker to do it. As long as it's nearly long enough at least I can't see any problem with it. Normal hardened steel bolts are fine and pretty cheap so you could also just grab a bunch of them and try them to figure it out. I think that's what I did when I noticed some missing from the rear engine mount bracket on mine haha.

it tells you the lengths of 4 different sizes that go from the trans to the motor and motor to trans. did you look on that page? its the one with the torque specs for those bolts. it shows the length in mm(in.). Also i was way off on the number it is mt-8. that shows all bolts but the rear trans mount bolts. em-53 is the page with the rear trans mount bolts but it only gives you an idea on how long the bolts are.

I looked at EM-53 and it's cylinder block inspection info (piston to bore clearance). I have a b14 200sx. I know that doesn't make a big difference in bolts but it probably does in terms of FSM info and pages from a b13 manual.

EDIT: spent some time tonight flipping through the hard copy and found the bolt table. Not sure why I missed it on the compy, but I found it nonetheless today. Thanks for yellin at me guys.
