Out of curiosity, does the rod bearing oil hole line up with any holes on the connecting rod? If it does, it would lead me to believe that the spray is momentary vs constant.

If you are not revving over 8000 RPM and don't mind the few extra grams/ounces/ 1.x pounds on the rotating assembly, you don't need aftermarket rods.

Boom, 54C rod has it too, ZOMFG.

This is getting rather silly now...

No and no. Neither is a concern of mine. I think what Ben pointed out though is the main determining factor. Ifs a set or ve then aftermarket rods are fine. If its a de, stick with the OEM rods.

Good pic of the squirter, and that looks to be a much more aggressive angle than what Ben is saying about the de rods.

This is a great topic you bring up Ben!

I was talking with Nick from 5535 Motorsports (who builds the Sr15VET engine for the 240sx LSR) about something similar just the other day!

One question to be asked is how wide (and far) the spray pattern it is?? I personally cannot tell from the pics.

Yes, thank you @Kyle. That's a great pic.
The 3000GT rod seems to have a 30 degree angle for the squirter. I'm estimating our angle is more like 10 degrees from vertical (angled a little so it avoids the small end of the rod). I'll have a picture with spaghetti or something in the hole soon.

Having seen tiny pin-holes in high pressure hydraulic hoses shoot perfectly connected streams (not seperating at all until 12-24 inches up) I have my money on this being a stream and not a spray pattern. Myself or someone else could do a test with an air compressor and some motor oil...

I've found some bamboo skewers that worked well for pics. I'll post a bunch this weekend. It looks as if the squirter is aimed to hit the bottom of the piston during at least 90% of the rotation.

I've been thinking. Given the bearing clearance, I have a hard time believing that the oil is squirted constantly. I cannot conceive how that much oil can be delivered past bearing with tight clearances. It really must be momentary when the oil holes line up.

I haven't personally ruled out that possibility entirely just yet, and if that's the way it works it really changes things. Making dedicate oil squirters a much more impressive upgrade.

DET's should have this in addition to the traditional oil squirters right? I wonder if RR/VE don't have these and thus they were labeled as worse for boost by OG's. I have a VE on engine stand that I can verify...
