Interesting Vibrant Stealth black muffler info
So I have had 4 or 5 different systems over the years that used the Vibrant stealth muffler because I like the sleeper look, and the sound is nice and deep compared to some other options out there.
Well,I stumbled across some interesting info the other day as I was putting a JDM rear bumper on my B13...

Just as I thought, the exhaust is gonna have to be modded to move the muffler to fit with the JDM bumper.I knew it would, since its shorter,so I removed the axleback portion of the exhaust temporarily to get the bumper installed.

Heres the thing...the car doesnt even seem ANY louder Its like the Muffler does NOTHING???
I have only started and moved the car around the property and free revved it so far.But as far as I can tell it didnt really get any louder.I was expecting it to get ALOT louder with no muffler on it.

I will make an update after I drive the car at speed to see whats up

I have a Stelath on my car and I will say that when the car was NA and the VVL kicked over the car would make your ears bleed as to how loud it was. It was fairly quiet when crusing. I am now using the same exhaust while on boost and its the same thing. So it does not shock me that without a muffler would be too much different.

I plan to update this thread when I get it back on the road..may be a month or so...but I will follow up.
I will have to drive it an hour to get to the exhaust shop so that will be a good judge of the sound as its mixed city/hwy driving to get there.

Turbo mufflers.

I have heard lots of Vibrant and I am not that impressed. Straight through designs are loud as fawk. JDM exhaust systems are nice and quiet because of the louvered resonator cores and turbo-style mufflers.

Here are new mufflers I have found that are pretty even as far as inlet and outlet measurements and locations. Price varies from $40 to $65 for the mufflers I found on the same web site.

Turbo mufflers are not a straight through design so an increase in backpressure will happen. Results and how much will vary. Here are the best options I have found so far from some heavy hitters in the exhaust muffler industry that utilize similar properties/technologies/style to decrease overall noise while cruising.

Summit Racing - Thrush Turbo 17718
Photo: Thrush PDF Other Link: Info about Thrush turbo mufflers in PDF and some here

Inlet/Outlet Size: 2.5in./2.5in. Center/Offset
Body Shape: 4.25in. x 9.75in. Oval
Core Size: 2.5in. via three chambers
Body Length: 20in.
Overall Length: 25in.

Summit Racing - Cherry Bomb Turbo 87752
Photo: Info about the Cherry Bomb Turbo mufflers and other sizes

Inlet/Outlet Size: 2.5in./2.5in. Center/Offset
Body Shape: 4.5in. x 9.75in. Oval
Core Size: 2.5in. via three chambers
Body Length: 14in.
Overall Length: 18.5in.

Summit Racing - Dynomax Super Turbo 17733
Photo: Info about the Dynomax Turbo mufflers and other sizes
[img][/IMG]
Inlet/Outlet Size: 2.5in./2.5in. Center/Offset
Body Shape: 4.25in. x 9.75in. Oval
Core Size: 2.5in. via three chambers
Body Length: 14in.
Overall Length: 18.5in.

Summit Racing - Magnaflow XL Turbo 13256
Photo: Info about the Magnaflow XL mufflers and other sizes

Inlet/Outlet Size: 2.5in./2.5in. Center/Offset
Body Shape: 4in. x 9in. Oval
Core Size: 2.5in. via three chambers
Body Length: 18in.
Overall Length: 24in.

The Thrush has the largest volume , followed second by the Magnaflow XL, then the Cherry Bomb and last is the Dynomax of these four turbo mufflers that all utilize three chamber technology, 2.5" center/offset mufflers.

it did go to the shop and it was not much louder...however the VVL was not hooked up yet.
I removed the 2.5 system and put a 3" VRS with 2 resonators and a Apexi WS2. The car is ALOT quieter cruising, but it still gets pretty loud in VVL now that its tuned and revving out with N1 cams

Agreed... they are only "stealth" visually and when cruising gently lol

I have come to the conclusion that theres no such thing as quiet with VVL if the car is gonna breathe and make all its potential power..I did what I could and just gotta live with it
